Well a die cast comes from a "mold" in which molten Aluminum or Steel or plastic is "cast" or forced with high pressure into the mold. Then once the material cools a representation of whatever you are "casting" pops out of the mold. In this case you would be referring to the scaled models of racecars. The mold normally consists of a male and female half that take the shape of whatever you want molded. Highly precise and repeatable this process is used for damn near everything. Whatever isn't molded, is generally stamped out in a "die" or precision machined. Die's and molds are precision machined as well reaching accuracy of .0001"

Another cool thing about them is that when at special times, they will have the diecast car resemble the actual car after the race. So if there is a doughnut on the side of the car or a dent, it will actually show it on the diecast.

It is a very close to the exact replica of a real car that is usually collected by adults in 1:44 ,1:64,or 1:24 scale. The 1:24 scale is the one that is more attractive to serious collectors. I currently have 978 1:24's and about 1500 1:64's and I wouldn't part with any of them !There was a Nascar diecast store that went out of business here in La. and I bought all of the Hendricks and Earnhardt stuff they had for pennies on a dollar !

The REAL ones are made by action. They are adult collectibles, and are sold at Action dealers, (Check your local sports store that sells Memorabilia). RCCA sells them and they have the Elite, ( that is the highest quality there is. They are like the actual car but shrunk.) The Elites have working shocks, the window net comes down, a little antenna for the radio on top, and realistic grill. They have the club car (these the trunk deck don't open) Diecasts can be made in color Chrome, (AWESOME!!), 24K Gold, and white gold!!
They are fun to collect! The regular action cars sell for about $50-$70 the club cars are like $60.00 and the elites are $100.00 The gold are like $150-$250. and there is Platinum that is like $250.00 Those are VERY RARE!

a diecast would be the same as what is known as a matchbox car or a hotwheels car. Diecast is just the generic term.
