I just checked my husband's AKO account, and it says that he's going to "SeoulAB". I know that's Korea, but is there more than one base there? If not, is it an accompanied or unaccompanied tour? PLEASE HELP! My husbands MOS is 15T, blackhawk repairer. ANYTHING you could tell me would be appreciated, because I'm completely new to the Army life!

90% of all tours to Korea are Unacompanied. if he is junior enlisted(e4 and below) chances are you will NOT get permission to join him. if hios orders are for 12 months, they are Unacompanied and you will not get command sponsorship.

I'm not sure how many places in South Korea your hubby could be sent for Blackhawk repair but I'd bet he'll be stationed either in Seoul or down near Osan or Tageau. Seoul and Osan are terrific duties (well speaking for myself I did 2 tours and almost 33 months there as a computer operator, both in Seoul) and tageau wasn't so bad (went there for a week or so on assignment). Most likely I'm afraid that your hubbys tour will probably be unaccompanied but there is a chance you could accompany him (usually means 3 yr stay instead of 1 yr) which wouldn't be too bad for you either! I had a wonderful time there and will go back one day to see it again God willing. Talk to your current co and see if they'll recommend your hubby to be on an accompanied tour and see how to go about trying to get that. You'll never regret the experience there. Best of Luck (hopefully you can always visit him mid tour if you have to stay here in the states)

I was stationed in Camp Castle, SK from 04-05. Camp Castle is in Area 1 and in Area 1 accompanied tours are forbidden. While I was there my roommate was able to bring his wife from the states ,because he found a small apartment right outside the camp. I believe he was only paying $500 dollars a month. I know guys that spent more than that on phone cards a month. Now this arrangement was not command sponsored and he did not receive any housing allowance ,but at least they were together. And even later on he was allowed to stay of post with his wife at night. Which is a real luxury in Area 1.

Not ALL tours to Korea are unaccompanied...Yongsan (Area II, Seoul) has housing for E-1 and up. My neighbor whos husband is an E-5, just got here (fort drum) after doing a 3 year tour in Seoul with his whole family. They said loved it there, you can go to the army housing website and it will give you info. about housing, personal property, local area,on post services, oha, temporary lodging and more.

There are very, very few accompanied tours in South Korea. I knew a lot of guys who were stationed there and not a single one went on accompanied orders.

There is more than one base in Korea, and some tours are accompanied, but you need to check with his unit!
