Working on stabilizing an arm, but forward motion adversely affects the tilt output of the accelerometer (ADXL103). I know a gyroscope works but can't something like the wiimote be tilited and still not have that tilt be affected by the forward and backward movement of your hand? Thank you

I guess i could add a second one and cancel out the forward movement to give me just the current tilting motion. I will have to try that.

This might be a bit expensive, but a Ring Laser Gyro is not usually affected by the forward motion. You can try that.

Why not get a second accelerometer oriented in the direction of forward movement. Then subtract out the output from that one to correct the other main one.

Not sure what the size of the arm is, but if it's big enough and outdoors, you can use dual GPS antennas. This is often used on cranes to monitor the orientation. A single processer receives the signal from both antennas and calculates the vector between them. Probably not the answer you're looking for, but I hope it helps.

You can use a network of accelerometers to give a 3-D sense of movement. It would take careful calculations but it can be done.
