My poor cat is in heat and Im just wondering how long they are in heat for, Ive never had a cat thats been in heat, all my other cats are fixed. I would of fixed this cat but unfortunatley the vet said that they didnt think she would take the anstetic as she is a "special needs" cat.

ya Joanne, all sounds good and dandy but if you actually read my question it says I cant get her fixed cause she wont take to the anistectic as she is a special needs kitty

Its almost like a form of Parkinsons to best summ it up that the vet said, my kittys mom must of had some viral infection that went down to the kittens I found this kitten on the side of the road, so she shakes a lot and cant really walk she roles around every where basically, she can walk 3 steps or so and fall, she's not in any pain, but I couldnt put her down because of her diability.

Female cats are in heat when they get their periods... seriously. The period lasts about as long as human periods last 4-7 days, and just about as often.

Cats are not seasonal breeders like dogs - they are in heat nearly year round, from about february - november, with short breaks in between - they pretty much stay in heath until mated. You need to be aware that cats are induced ovulators - they are always capable of getting pregnant because the mere act of mating stimulates them to ovulate. They can even get pregnant when already pregnant, or when they've just given birth.
Get a second opinion from a vet regarding the anaesthetic. For one thing, your cat may get ill or injured in the future and require emergency anaesthetic. I can't really think of a condition that will be hindered by modern anaesthetic agents i.e isoflurane or sevoflurane. What anaesthetic gas/induction agent is your vet using? If it's something old fashioned like halothane then there probably is reason to worry - in which case like a said, find a more modern vet. What exactly is meant by 'special needs' kitty? What condition does your cat have exactly?
Sounds to me like your vet is fobbing you off a bit. Enquire further!

Oh I feel so sorry for you! I had at one time 5 females that I couldn't afford to get fixed right away. They all had different types of heats. Some only do it for a week and not again for a few months... another would go into heat and stay in it for 2 months. They all acted differently as well. One female went out of heat because we had gotten a new kitten and she stayed out of it for a year. Like I said... she will have her own type. You could keep a record of it to see what it is like. Forewarned is forearmed!

Climate and season are deciding factors. Three sexual cycles are normal, but up to four is very well possible. Each cycle spans about three weeks, of which cats are in heat for about four to six days. so basically the actual cycle lasts about three weeks but the cat is only in heat for about four to six days of this.

haha, well one of my cats was only in heat for like a few days but my other one is still in heat.......and its been for like forever now......atleast 3wks.........and it keeps putting its butt in the air and purring and rubbing all over my poor dog........its sooo annoying GOOD LUCK

Last time I check with my vet, he told me that a female cat is always in heat. So I suggest you have her spayed before she starts destroying your house and driving you insane...
