Um I don't think that's the reason. It is not compulsory but I think it's just respectful. After all, God takes note of everything we say and do and it could be 100xs more rewarding by just using these words once. Also, say someone had the same name as one of the prophets (Joseph (Yusuf), Jesus (Isa),etc) surely we want to distinguish between who we're talking about...

In the translation of the meanings of the Qur'an in Surah 33 entitled Al-Ahzab (The Confederates), ayah (verse) 56:
"Allah sends His Salah on the Prophet (Muhammad), and also His angels (do so). Oh you who believe! Send your Salah on (i.e. ask Allah to bless) him (Muhammad) and greet him with the Islamic way of greeting (i.e. as-Salaam Alaykum, which means peace be upon you)" (33:56)

The Messenger of Allah said:" Whoever sends one salah( aka pbuh) upon me, Allah will send ten upon him."
This hadith is authentic.

You don't ... these are invented things by the so called "Muslims". The believers are told to send blessings and Peace on the Messengers and Prophets and the rest of the believers ... but not every time you take their names.
This is one of the reasons the so called "Muslims" are the farthest astray in faith today ..... then the Christians and the Jews are not far behind.

I would think it like a superstition but I am sure there is a concern he might not be in peace as he himself did not know his salvation.

It's probably something like those people that every time they mention a dead person, they write (r.i.p.) immediately afterward.
