I grew up with labs and love them to death. They are the most trainable, loving, easy going dog there is. They love kids and other animals. I recently had to put down my black lab "Rocky," and am currently training "Buddy" a 6 mo. yellow lab male. Rocky won best of breed at the California Nationals when he was just 9 mo's old. Buddy has picked up all the obedience commands sooo fast and LOVES to do tricks. Labs are VERY smart and pick up things easily so you can begin training them at a very young age. By the time my labs were 12 weeks they already knew "sit, down, stay (mostly:), come, off, and heal." People think that labs are super hyper dogs which is totally not true. They just need lots of exercise and activities to stay balanced. They usually love water, so they are great dogs to take to the beach or lake and were bred to dive into frigid water so they are great in the snow as well. They are great with other animals and kids. They are an active, well balanced breed.

I have a Lab/Landseer Newf mix and he's a WONDERFUL dog! I highly suggest going to a shelter to find one as opposed to a breeder. There may even be a Lab Rescue group in your area. Personally I prefer my Lab/Newf over a purebred Lab. He's a bit more laid back, not OBSESSED with playing fetch and a bit thicker-coated than a Labrador.
He was SO easy to train - even later on when I decided to add things I wanted him to learn - like waiting to go out a door - staying at the top of the stairs going down my property while I go to my car. They're very, VERY smart dogs and absolutely adore their owners!

well, labs are awesome pets, i have 2 and they are the best pets ever, wouldn't trade them for $1million, well, they are low maintenance and are great for any age. They Dont need to be bathed b/c they have natural oils in their skin thst keep them clean. They love to go swimming usually, i say that b/c sometimes the odd lab doen't like water. They are very social, so if you arent home at all, then maybe you should reconsider having a pet. Um....if u get a puppy, dont let them in a room that u dont want destroyed b/c they will eat ur house!!!! they love to chew so get it lots of toys/bones. They eat pretty much everything so be careful. Um...well if u have any questions let me know, u can IM me or e-mail me. Bye!!

Labs are great dogs. They are gentle with kids and they love everyone. If you get a puppy, they will chew (anything and everything). They can get pretty big, they need lots of excerise and they like to run They are a breed that is prone to hip problems so if you are getting one from a breeder ask about that.

Ours is a chocolate lab/Weimeraner mix, and she's the sweetest dog I've ever known. She'll lay her head on the couch cushion and look up at me like "I love you, Mommy!" They're wonderful with children, and very gentle. She's almost completely blind, but even before, when you tried to give her a treat, she'd take it from you with her lips, not by biting at it. I have 4 great-nieces and great-nephews, and somehow when she met them (pre-blindness), she knew exactly how to act toward each--she was (slightly) rowdy with the 11 year old boy, and much gentler with the others. She loves to play fetch (yes, I know), and is so proud of herself when she finds it. She's also very bright--she knows several commands, even some we didn't even realize we were teaching her.

Be sure to do your research! Labs are great dogs but unfortunately a dime a dozen and you have be careful where you get one from (rescues and shelters have tons of homeless Labs, and then there are responsible breeders). They can be great dogs for the right owner and especially younger dogs need to be kept busy. They can be prone to putting on weight so their diet needs to be properly maintained.

I have a labrador retriever, they're really playful and active. I suggest that if you do get one, get it trained so that when it grows up you can control their behavior. I send you a link about more info on the labs, hopefully it can help you.

We have a lab/boxer mix "puppy" and he chews EVERYTHING and digs. He's also very excitable. Not good if you live in an apartment (we don't). He's 7 months old and 40 pounds (and still growing), so yes, they're big dogs.
