I bought a 2004 three years ago with 75,000 miles for $800. it had some problems, but it was still a steal. I think the asking price on yours is a little high.

You didn't say what part of the country you are in, so this information is based on where I am. I also went with the '01 Lumina with standard equipment, nothing else added, and assumed the car is in good condition (as opposed to "excellent" or "poor"). You also didn't say whether you were buying from a dealer or a private seller, so I assumed a dealer. The 2001 Chevrolet Lumina, 4 dr, standard equipment with 66000 miles (average being about 75000 miles), in good condition being sold by a dealership is valued at $3575.00. Sounds like you'd be getting a nice deal. If you are getting the car from a dealer, make sure the car has been gone over with a fine toothed comb for potential problems. A 6 year old car with 66000 miles (while impressive) probably won't come with any warranty, so you want to make sure you're not getting a lemon. Good luck!

The base price for a 01 Lumina is about $4000 from a private party and $4900 from a dealer. Follow the link below and enter more specific items on the car to get a better estimate of its value.
I've owned several Chevy's over the years. They have been good reliable cars. I've always felt I've gotten my money's worth.
I currently own a 2000 Chevy which I bought new with about 120,000 trouble free miles on it now. It doesn't use any oil. It always starts. Everything works. It still drives like new.
I would buy another.

A couple years back there was a recall on the anti-lock breaking systems on the Luminas. I know, I used to own one. If you are thinking of buying one, find out if they had the problem fixed with the dealer if it falls into that category.
The price is too high on that vehicle. If it were in really good condition, I would pay maximum $1,800 to $2,500.
Good luck to you and enjoy your day!
EDIT: Oh and the 66,000 miles, find out if its mostly highway or city. Highway puts less stress on the vehicle than city because of all the stop and go.

yep. chev had trouble mateing the alum. intake manifold to the cyl head. seems like always the front right but no reason why any of the end ones couldn't leak. i replaced the gasket on my 1500 4+4 and still had to use stop leak and i've been a mechanic for years. i didn't want to spend the bucks to get the manifold shaved. At 70 and 80 $ anhour its still going to cost a chunck. about $300 i would think. No don't mix antifreeze. Its cheaper to drain and refill than to buy the dexcool from the dealer but if they do the job you can bet you'll be buying a gallon or so.

Is this from a private seller, or dealer? If from the dealer, they should be offering a carfax report, on its history. Also, get a good test drive, and such. Seeing if your comfortable with its driveability. Also, if your not very car knowledgible, may want to bring a friend that is, to help look for things like leaks, and such under the car. Hope these help a little. Good luck.
