In South India we have four states and the river Kavery is flowing between the two major states of Karnataka and Tamilnadu where 70 million and 50 million people live, respectively. The dispute on the water sharing is 100 years old, right from the British ruled times! The union government has appointed a committee to study and award a ruling and when the ruling came it was challenged in the Supreme court and when the Supreme court upheld it, the State Government went against it to say the judiciary is unacceptable to them! The tussle is continuing till date!

Numerous water rights fights in the United States. Los Angeles grabbing all the water from the Owens valley in the first part of the 20th century (which is the big secret plot behind the story of the excellent movie, "Chinatown"). The California and Arizona national guards facing each other across the Colorado river. Water has been fought and litigated over for thousands of years.
