Many Christians believe that Satan used to be an Angel of God and was cast down when he refused to bow to Adam. How is this possible when Christianity holds that angels DO NOT have free will and must obey Gods every word?

Sadly, every Christian that has answered so far has only contradicted what they believe...

satan was a jinn not an angel because angels dont have free will they are just created to do whatever god tells them to do and they are created of light (noor) and beside satan was made from fire and he didnt think he was better than god he just refused to bow to adam becasue he and his hugehead thought that he was made of fire so he was better than adam who was made of dirt and sand so thats why he was kicked out becasue he refuesed to follow god's command

The Koran does better in this regard.

First the definitions:
1. ALLAH - Creator of the universe
2. ANGELS - No Free Will - Carry out Allahs commands and convey them to all in the Universe.
3. GINNS - Created from Fire - Have a Free Will - Have no body. Iblis or Lucifer was a GINN and not ANGEL according to the Koran.
4. Humans - Created from Clay - Have a Free Will - Have a Body with a WILLIE as well.

If ANGELS disobey then GOD's quality control was questionable. By definition this cannot happen and if some religion insists Angels rebel then they are calling GOD or his creations imperfect.

BUT if GINNS or Humans Disobey then this does not break any of the definitions above.

Christians is it trure that you Beleive that Angels disobeyed. If yes whats the strict definition of Angels. Do they have a Free will? Guess Not.

That's a good question. Some christians say God commanded Lucifer to bow down to Adam and then was cast down to be Satan when he refused, while others say it was because of Lucifer's desire to be God that he was cast down. But your saying, that if Lucifer had free will... how could God punish him for a wrong choice? My answer is, that Lucifer had the same consequences we face when we disobey God. Some consequences are good (when we agree to or do the right thing) and some not, some consequences are natural, like getting burned on a hot stove when you touch it, and some are intentional consequences, like when a parent takes away a privilage from a child for doing wrong.

It is true that Satan was a fallen angel. In fact he was the apparent leader of all other fallen angels who had because of pride rebelled against God.

"For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;" II Peter 2:4;

"And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day." Jude 6;

"And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, 8 And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him." Revelation 12:7-9.

Having fallen, it is his design to lead astray and cause to sin those who would be in a right relationship with God, thereby seeking to destroy the glory and honor that should otherwise belong to Him.

Satan’s power over humans today has been restricted only to evil and ungodly influences. Those who succumb to such influences will experience the same destiny that has been prepared for Satan at the end of time (Matthew 25:41; Revelation 20:10).

Satan means slanderer...he was born an angel but his name had not yet said. He was being used in the garden by God or maybe just being curious ..but he wanted the worship for himself. Thats why he lied to the humans..he didn't want them to worship God.

He was cast out of the heavens thousands of years after Adam and Eve were in the garden. He was cast out because he was wicked and had already convinced 1/3 of the angels to follow him.

Good angels obey Gods every word...bad angels look at the daughters of men and take them for themselves. They also know time is short and they will be destroyed...they want to make all of you die too. Don't do bad...if you do you are following satan.

wow! we just had a sermon on this last sunday.

my pastor also said that angels are NOT given free will as humans are..and therefore logically an angel would never think "oh hey, i can be better than God!"

actually, Jewish tradition believes that satan is an angel who's JOB is to tempt. he is just doing what he was created to do, which is to tempt us and force us to choose and learn what is Right and Wrong.

the example that was given was Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (the old movie, not the johnny depp one). after each child found the golden ticket, a creepy guy named Slugsworth came up and offered $$ in exchange for secrets from the factory. after each kid broke rules, it was assumed they would sell their Everlasting Gobstopper, but when Charlie broke the rules and was yelled at, he gave back the candy...and "Slugsworth" came out and announced he was actually an Employee of wonka!!

so, the point here is that it doesn't matter whether or not this Slugsworth (satan character) was EVIL or not. the point is he was employed by Wonka (or God character) in order to induce a human's Free will to choose what was Good.

i think people think too much about technicalities instead of using common sense, and seeking what it means to do Good things. good luck to us to keep searching what is right in our eyes~

Well first the Angel's of God do have free will, Lucifer was the most highly ranked and most beautiful angel of them all, and he wanted to be God, do what he does have all the power and that is why God sent him out of Heaven. It is all a very complicated thing and we will never really actually know the truth till our day is here..I went to church ever since i was a kid till about 14 or 15, im 21 now and even thou i dont attend church i still strongly believe in the lord and know he is there and believe in miracles, but for those who dont believe it is your own choice not to but you shouldn't criticize ppl who do and think everyone is trying to push religion on you

The two most important passages in the Bible about the origin and fall of Satan are Ezekiel 28:12-19 where Ezekiel describes the creation and judgment of Lucifer, Satan. The second passage relating to Satan's fall is found in Isaiah 14:12-14 where Isaiah tells of the origin and fall of Satan.

Angels are messengers of God. The difference between Angels and men is that Jesus came as a way for men to have a way to atone for their sins. From my understanding Angels were created to do God's will, without free will. Once they sinned and disobeyed there was not forgiveness for them.

John 3:17-21
17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. 19This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."

The bible says so. Angels were given free will before humans were created and they rebelled. A third of the angels fell when Lucifer, the most beautiful angel led them to destruction. They still had free will for a while but chose to love mortal women and so their will was taken away. There is evidence of this in the Bible. It really is a good read.

Who said that angels have to obey Gods every word? They don't have free will to make the choice to believe or not in God because they've already seen him DUH? That is what free will is for. Angels did fall, they did not obey and Satan is one of them. It is in the bible, Satan was of the most high angel. This being why he thought he could be God. I don't believe that arrogance was strictly licensed for the human race. Nor do I believe Love is and alot of other things.
