I was in Friendship Wisconsin two months ago and I never paid the ticket. On the stub it sais they can put a warrant out for my arrest and suspend my IL DL..Is this true? My friend has like two tickets in Wisconsin and he never paid them and all they did was suspend his Wisconsin License..meaning he cant drive in WI. The ticket was a speeding ticket it was like 350 dollars. Im not paying it because I know i wasnt speeding but I lost in court. Anyways...Im never in Wisconsin..does anyone know if it will affect my IL license..just not paying it? I know its on my record already because I was found guilty but can any legal action be taken? Can they extradite me across state lines beause of it? Im really worried that something is gonna happen ..but several people keep telling me thats its fine and nothing is gona happen.

If you don't pay it, and this has already happened to your friend who is giving you an uninformed story, there will be a warrant for your arrest. While they won't likely extradite you for a traffic offence, some day, you may be a passenger on a plane that is diverted and lands there, and you could be arrested in the airport. You could have a friend invite you to a wedding, and be arrested in the church or driving to the reception. If insurance asks for a driving update on renewal, or you apply for a new policy, you have a default conviction that can not be hidden. If you get licence suspended in one state, you cannot legally renew in any other. If you have never had a WI licence, there is not one to suspend, but this isn't a game of tiddly-winks here. At some point in time, this can catch up to you. Get pulled over for an offence in another state, and WI could decide they want you sent on to them after you are dealt with, since you are in custody already. If you came to my office and said you just moved here, you could not even be issued a new licence because of the unpaid ticket in any state or province. This is the age of computers. You may be able to hide, but you are hiding in the middle of an open field now.

Yes it is.

On top of suspending the License your friend more than likely has an arrest warrant issued for him as well. Whether you think you are right or not you were found guilty and need to pay the fine. Because even though you think you will never come back to WI, you might and it will come back and bite you. With a fine that high, if you are stopped in WI you will be arrested and the LEO agency in the Addams-Friendship area will come and get you.

You can't be extradited accross state lines but the next step would be to have your IL operating privledges suspended for failure to pay. And that means even if you are in IL if you get stopped you may find out there that you are suspended.

I'll be blunt, put your fellings of self-righteousness aside and pay the fine, otherwise it will came back and bite you when you expect it least.

You really have no choice but to pay. If an Illinois police officer runs your plates you might as well be back in Wisconson. Keep reading from the Illinois rules of the road.

Appearing in Court

If you get a ticket for a minor traffic violation, you will be required to post bond in the form of cash, a bond card or a valid driver’s license. If your driver’s license was posted and you pay the ticket before the first court date, your driver’s license will be returned. If you fail to pay the ticket or to appear in court, a second court date may not be automatically set. Failure to appear on the second date will result in loss of bond or may result in suspension of your driver’s license until you satisfy the court.

An Illinois driver ticketed in another state that is a member of the Non-Resident Violator Compact has two options: 1) stay in the ticketing state and argue the case or pay the fine, or 2) sign a promise to comply with the traffic ticket. This promise allows the driver to continue the journey and handle the ticket by mail from home. This courtesy also is extended to nonresidents from compact member states who are ticketed in Illinois. Failure to comply with the signed promise to appear will result in suspension by the home state motor vehicle department.

Sorry, That means pay up or loose your license in Illinois.

Yes, they can suspend your IL driver's license. Usually if you live in a different state and you don't pay the fine, You will be under federal, which means they will issue out a warrant for your arrest. And it won't be in the state of wisconsin.

Maybe you should try to strike a deal with the court and pay a little at a time. I really dont think they are going to send a bounty hunter to get you over a speeding ticket, but if anything else ever happens that will always be on your record. And it you ever go to wisonsin again and you get pulled over they can and will take your butt to jail because they've got nothing better to do.

This is part of the reason why us Illinoisans are referred to as FIBs in Wisconsin.

You can bet they will give Illinois tags a close look and you can bet you Illinois DL will be suspended.
