EL PASO, Texas — A Border Patrol agent shot a migrant who was crossing illegally into the U.S. through a drainage tunnel early Tuesday, the U.S. Border Patrol said.

The agent, who was not identified, encountered a group of people in the tunnel around 12:30 a.m. The actions of a migrant who approached him prompted the agent to draw his weapon and fire, the Border Patrol said in a news release.

The single bullet fired stuck the migrant in the left arm. He was transported to the hospital with a non-life threatening injury, according to the Border Patrol statement.

The Mexican Consulate was notified about the incident. El Paso Police, the Border Patrol Sector Evidence Team, and the FBI will conduct independent investigations. They are looking at what caused the agent to fire, said Doug Mosier, a spokesman for the Border Patrol in El Paso.

The agent involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative duty pending outcome of the investigation, the Border Patrol said.

Here's the way the story SHOULD have read:
"EL PASO, Texas — A Border Patrol agent shot an illegal alien drug-running "coyote" who was crossing illegally into the U.S. through a drainage tunnel early Tuesday, the U.S. Border Patrol said.

The agent, who was not identified, encountered a group of people in the tunnel around 12:30 a.m. The life-threatening actions of a migrant who approached him prompted the agent to draw his weapon and fire, the Border Patrol said in a news release.

The single bullet fired stuck the illegal alien drug-running coyote in center mass. He was transported to the morgue, according to the Border Patrol statement.

The Mexican Consulate was notified about the incident. El Paso Police, the Border Patrol Sector Evidence Team, and the FBI will award the agent with meritorious citations. They are looking at the increasing danger faced by BP agents, said Doug Mosier, a spokesman for the Border Patrol in El Paso.

The agent involved in the shooting will be given an extra couple of days off, the Border Patrol said."

Will they make an example of this border agent also? It is a sad day for our country when the criminals have all the rights and those protecting us have none. There will come a day when they won't be able to fill the positions of the needed border agents. Why would anyone want a job where their life in put in jeopardy every day and then have the threat of being put in jail for defending themselves.
Wonder how much this one will sue us for.

Maybe we need to start the calls again,to make it a terrorist act to enter the USA illegally. How about putting up signs on the border saying . Beyond this point your are entering the USA. Live firing range .Survivors will be prosecuted, Of course it must be in all languages.

Hmm, from Texas are we?

I see your point, and am sure that if the patrolman fired because he was threatened then he is in the clear.

19 witnesses may say otherwise however, for whatever reason.

I do feel for you people, as I understand it is a big problem for people near the boarder, bigger certainly than for the city types who are happy to have their coffee poured by all and sundry.

I live in the worlds most leaky country (England), and have every sympathy for your patrolman and you.

Looks to me like the Border Patrol needs to spend more time at the range.

Maybe Sutton is also on the payroll of the smugglers. Why do the newspapers referred to the illigals as migrates, when they are clearly illegal immigrates. Even the newspapers are on the side of the illigals and frame the issue in their favor

so what is wrong with protecting the border?
I dont see a problem here.
The criminals knew the risk of their illegal action.
The border patrol is well within its rights to shoot any illegal immigrant crossing the border.
Laws need to be upheld.
End of story

I guess Johnny-boy's "message" didn't make it all the way through the ranks.

Or, alternately, they still believe they have an important job to do, and will do it despite Johnny-boy's interference.
