Are they absorbed through the skin?

No, the products just lay on the skin and when a flea or tick comes around they get absorbed in it and die.

Frontline and Advantage are typically a liquid-based product that rids fleas and ticks. My brother uses it on his dog in MA because they have a huge flea problem out there. I know for a fact that you put the liquid on the dog/cat, typically on the back or the base of the neck. You apply it there and then 'rub' or massage the skin together and it is absorbed through the skin to repel fleas and ticks for (with my brother's dog-Lab) up to 3 months or so. It works really good, but it is also fairly pricey! It is a great product tho, and my brother continues to use it every few months and so far--no flea or tick problems with his dog, who is an outside dog! Good luck!

That's why frontline is such a great product, it does not get absorbed into the skin. It stays on the oil layer of the body and is distributed throughout the body via the oil--making it safer than OTC products which do get absorbed through the skin.
