I am not saying he is or he was - but just what if

If Jesus was as fictional as Superman or Santa Claus

Would that change the way you do things ?

Would you suddenly stop being nice to your nieghbor ?

Would you start stealing from work -cheating on your wife and or husband ?

Just suppose for a moment - Jesus and the entire bible was no more than a Steven King novel and you found out today

How would you react ?

As an atheist I wouldn't have to change a thing.

--SUPPOSING that noteworthy persons are very convinced that indeed he was the living Christ & they trust JUST THE history of the Bible?
--WHAT WOULD you do rely on your supposing OR PAY ATTENTION?
*** gt The Greatest Man Who Ever Lived ***

The historian H. G. WELLS said that a man’s greatness can be measured by ‘what he leaves to grow, and whether he started others to think along fresh lines with a vigor that persisted after him.’ Wells, although not claiming to be a Christian, acknowledged: “By this test Jesus stands first.”
--Alexander the Great, Charlemagne (styled “the Great” even in his own lifetime), and Napoleon Bonaparte were powerful rulers. By their formidable presence, they wielded great influence over those they commanded. Yet, NAPOLEON(my caps) is reported to have said: “Jesus Christ has influenced and commanded His subjects without His visible bodily presence"
**A Historical Person
--Yet, strangely, some say that Jesus never lived—that he is, in effect, a creation of some first-century men. Answering such skeptics, the respected historian WILL DURANT argued: “That a few simple men should in one generation have invented so powerful and appealing a personality, so lofty an ethic and so inspiring a vision of human brotherhood, would be a miracle far more incredible than any recorded in the Gospels.”
--Ask yourself: Could a person who never lived have affected human history so remarkably? The reference work The Historians’ History of the World observed: “The historical result of [Jesus’] activities was more momentous, even from a strictly secular standpoint, than the deeds of any other character of history. A new era, recognised by the chief civilisations of the world, dates from his birth"

I would have to say that "Jesus" actually existed due to old manuscripts, biblical evidence, etc. Either he was God manifested, or he was just another regular guy who was some kind of revolutionary in his day. If the latter was the case, then the Bible would be the biggest hoax in human history. That could create massive problems in Christian society, which in turn would effect the world in general.
There have been some questions to the ethinticity of Biblical writings by other theorists, such as maybe extra-terrestrial intervention may have been the case in many Biblical stories. The final question though is, is there a God?
I still believe in some supreme being, otherwise, what's the point of our existence?

This is an interesting question...
However, Webster defines faith as "belief with out the presence of proof"
It is only human nature to NEED something or someone to believe in. We search for some type of meaning in our lives.
So your question is really a moot one. Whether God exists isn't the question, because we would simply find something else to satisfy our humanly need and maintain our current lifestyles. The question should be, what if we all chose Not to believe?
May God help us all!

There is proof of his existence: "Jesus of Nazereth" in the Roman scriptures. But if he did not exist, I'm sure people would keep up their good deeds, he's not the only one to come with a message from God telling the people to believe in him. (I'm a muslim with as much love for Jesus as any other christian)
Think of Noah, Moses and Joseph and all the other dudes. They've come with the same message just at different eras in time. It's a shame the christians have misinterpreted Jesus' existence as the son of God and not a simple Prophet as he claimed to be though he was the purest of prophets and the king of all kings.

I don't know if my life would change much. I would definitely stop the whole church thing, but my lifestyle is positive. I am healthier and happier than if I simply did whatever I wanted. I don't have STD's, I'm not fat, I don't have emotional baggage, I don't have a criminal record. There are things that would be good for me to continue doing regardless if God existed. One good piece of evidence for His existence is that by doing those things He recommends, my life is better.

It wouldn't matter. Even if you were able to prove it scientifically, beyond a shadow of a doubt, the believers would still go on believing.

Think about it. People still believe that the earth is 6000 years old and god created it in 6 days. How much more evidence do they need?!? Faith is about ignoring the facts and believing anyway.

Not surprising then, that the only way into the Christian heaven is to 'believe'. Those who question the fairy tale "burn in hell for all eternity".

I decided long ago that Jesus was made up. I am still the same person. And I'm a good person. I don't need someone in the sky riding herd on me to keep me in line.

Or like a zodiac, allegory? Just one of several zodiac allegories?
No, that would change nothing for me! I would react by thinking, wow this is fascinating. But, the Zeitgeist film is not the first place I have ever seen or heard this, either! *sm*

Wow. Well, I wouldn't be in church on Sunday. Natural law is written on everyone's heart, so in terms of doing things differently to my neighbor, no. Doing the right thing never brings salvation; it's merely the "right thing" to do.
Non-Christians don't exactly run out to cheat on their spouses just because they're non-Pxians. Non-Christians don't steal from work because they're non-Christians. They do it because they're human -- just as the Christians who sin.

Depressed, probably.

But since you are committing the age-old logic fallacy or "hypothesis contrary to fact" I don't have to worry.

Now, I agree that there may not be incontroverible evidence of his existence (despite a couple of reliable non-Christian references), and my outlook on him is correctly a "belief." But for me, and many, many others the belief in salvation is a vital and tangible fact, and is more-than-sufficient to contradict your premise.
