Some things that are sinful are not illegal, and some things that are illegal are not sinful.
That said, I think that using marijuana responsibly (ie, not around children and not while driving) is not sinful, because it is simply a diversion like drinking wine or watching t.v.
In some states, it is legal to use it for medicinal purposes.
In some states, it is legal to use it if that is part of your religion.

Interesting because I think that marijuana has a place in medicine. But you are correct in that since it is against the law, it is a sin. The Bible tells us to render to Caeser what is Caeser's and to God what it God's. In other words we are to follow the laws of man unless it contradicts the laws of God.
If it weren't illegal? I don't think it's any worse than a couple of beers and they could use the taxes to fight the hard drug crimes. Medicine would benefit the most since it has been proven to have good effect in some diseases most especially glaucoma and MS. It also helps with nausea and the side effects of chemo.

Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.
What is the fruit the smoking produces in your life?
Smoking weed is not a sin, but what fruit does it produce in your heart? That is the question you have to ask yourself.
Does it make you seek after God's will or your will?
Drinking alcohol is not against the law, but how does it affect your heart? It is the same question you should ask even if weed was legal.
But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.
For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies
These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.

I'd look at this in a similar way to alcohol.
1) drunkenness, or the equivalent with marajuana getting "high", is not Christian
2) often substance abuse becomes a barrier between you and your creator - a false god, or idol, if you like! Also not Christian.
And of course, it IS illegal... But then so is Christianity in some places, would that then be a sin?!

To me, a sin is only something that harms you or somebody else physically or spiritually. So if the pot habit is affecting your lie in a negative way, which it probably does, then yes, it's a sin. But if you can manage it perfectly, then it's not, which is unlikely given it messes up your brain so much.

If it weren't illegal, there'd be no sin, as God gave humanity every herb bearing seed, and intended it be used. Incidentally, alcohol is a naturally ocurring molecule. There is documented proof of elephants seeking out fermented berries so they can experience intoxication.

No, because it has helped many cancer patients deal with their disease and with the treatment for it. I think marijuana ought to be legalized in such cases.
I don't care if it is illegal. It helps cancer patients. They ought to use it if they so desire.
Life is not al black and white. There are shades of gray everywhere, not just in this area.
