In what condition is the rest of the body?
If the rest of the body is badly corroded, it may be advisable and cheaper to replace the entire body (shell). You may be able to find an abandoned car which is in better shape (corrosion-wise).
If only the roof is rusted, you have a few options, most of which have been suggested by the others:
1) Get the roof cut-off and a new one welded in place, but have it professionally attended to. Make sure that the strength of the body is not affected in any way.
2) You could also go for the "Rag Top" option, but again get the body strengthened to compensate for the loss of the centre portion of the roof.
3) If the corrosion is not too bad and is not spread over the entire roof, the best option would be to have it tinkered, by a professional tinker.
4) If only a small portion of the roof is rusted, it would be cheaper just to get it repaired.
If cash is not a major issue, whatever you choose, get it done in a professional manner. If not, chances are that the problem will recur, and you will have to incur further cost.
The VW Beetle (or Bug) is a useable Classic, and in my opinion should be maintained, and kept going. A well-maintained Bug will last a lifetime.
I was very fortunate to have found an excellent and very original 1972 VW Beetle 1302S (Super Beetle), which I purchased in October 2006, and do not regret doing so.

I had a 68 that I bought new. Paid 2005 total for it, tax, license, everything. That was the first new car that I owned.
Take it to a body shop and get an estimate on getting it repaired. They are a classic as others have said. You don't see many of them on the road anymore.
Either that or put it up for sale, and I'm sure it won't last long. The only thing is, I doubt if you'll lose money on it, no matter how long you own it. So it is just like driving a car for free. good luck.

there is a normal examine. Take a huge crescent wrench with you and stick it on the crankshaft pulley nut and rotate the motor turning the nut in a clockwise path. If it does not pass - the engine is seized. $6500.00 worth of artwork = $0 (using fact it ought to be rebuilt back). substantial artwork. while it do no longer run, it truly is a substantial gamble. And being it truly is no longer inventory anymore, it truly is no longer worth lots broken(or perhaps working) to a collector. a pair months sitting? that may not something, I even have autos sitting a year or so, that with a robust battery will hearth top up on the gas it incredibly is in them. (that may not previous). or you should get a mechanical pal that owns a automobile to return over with jumpers and supply it a leap. If it does not initiate the mechanical type is conscious top off what isn't working by ability of listening and seeing what's occurring. vehicles take a seat on the motor vehicle lots for a number of months. and that they run.

Have someone patch it up or you could rag top it! In other words get a full length material sun roof, that way you can chop out all the holes and rust!!!

A good body shop can give you an estimate on repairing it. That would be the best alternative as this is potentially a collectible auto. If you are low on $$ and want to do it yourself there are several body repair materials that you can use (Bondo being the generic name used a lot.) available at you local parts store. Follow the directions. It's important.

If the car is OK otherwise and you like it and want to keep it, take it to a body shop and find out how much it will be to fix it.
I'd fix it only if everything else was good, but if you have a lot of other problems, get rid or it. You can find a "classic" like this on every corner.

You could get epoxy glue and seal the holes or you could go to a sheet metal shop and have them weld another roof on there. Another thing is go to a auto parts place like pick n pull and they will cut your roof off and weld another on, this is done all the time.

If it's a 69 it is a classic. You have a valuable piece of junk there. I would put it up for auction make some money and dump the piece of crap on someone else.
