In my opinion, the Japanese are the most defined by their manners.

I'm sure you have already found this out, but Japan has a very rigorously defined use of manners to cope with the unbelievable density of it's society. The language is highly formalised. The way people treat other people is again very formal and the societal structure and functional organisation of personal and work-life there has been, until very recently, defined by rigidly mannered structures.

Consider the Japanese tea ceremony - this is more an intricate display of ritual, manners and the uniqueness of the moment rather than just simply drinking a quick cuppa.

All things are liable to change - so, even in Japan - they are noticing that the growth in what is perceived as personal freedom has caused this to begin to fray at the edges.

I don't know about the world. But I say that manners are most important with your very own family. Why? Because they are worthy of it. Everybody else is a stranger. I am 100% italian, first generation born American. Hope this helps.

Manners SHOULD be everywhere all the time!!!

Some of us Americans seem to have forgotten such thing even exists. It doesn't matter the age, sex, race, etc. People just don't use manners!!!

in places like singapore, i heard that you always have to shake someone's hand with your right and you can't spit on the sidewalk, nor can you jaywalk either.
