I have heard mixed things about upgrading to Vista Home Premium. I am looking for as many opinions as possible with why or why not.

Vista on a NEW machine is probably OK, but make sure there are Vista drivers for your Printer, Scanner, Camera, etc. FIRST. These are what cause most migration problems. Not all applications work in Vista either.

Upgrading to Vista on an older PC is not a good idea YET, use the free Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor (Google for it) to test your PC.

Then, wait until all the manufacturer's have Vista drivers in place. Until then, stick with XP.

I would wait... let Microsoft debug it fully. When XP came out everyone was scared also. Now it is very stable. Also ur machine must meet or surpass the specs required by Vista. Vista is a resource hog so u need a lot of memory and a fast CPU plus a good video card. If i was u stay with XP until Vista is more stable. Basically u must have a lot of money upfront not only for the OS but all the hardware Not CHEAP!

My friend has it and it's given him a lot of trouble. We both bought new laptops. Mine had Windows P Home and his had Vista premium. I made the choice because this version has been tried and tested ( and it still has it's quirks) but Vista has a long way to go yet. Give it some time when all the wrinkles have been ironed out.

a lot of the benefits of vista you can do right now with various upgrades to your current operating system. that will be so much cheaper with the same result. save yourself the money and the trouble and wait until you buy your next computer to have vista.
