I was a PCV 35 years ago. My daughter is one today. The most important thing you can do is go to college and major in a skill that a developing country needs. TESL, for instance - Teaching English as a Second Language, or nursing, or health education, or civil engineering with an emphasis on low-tech water and sewage systems.

It sounds harsh, but good intentions are not enough. In one sense the Peace Corps is like an employment service; they match people with skills who want to volunteer with requests from developing countries for people with those skills.

To take an extreme example, suppose you were the best glass-blower in the world. Suppose further you had a gift for teaching your craft to others, since the Peace Corps is big on "Give a man a fish and he will be hungry the next day; teach a man to fish, and he will eat for the rest of his life".

Now suppose, sadly, that no country wanted to develop its glass-blowing industry. You wouldn't get an invitation despite your skills and motivation. If, on the other hand, you were an average water and sewage engineer, you'd get a dozen invitations, because there are thousands of villages that need a clean water supply.

The official web site will take you from there.

i've got theory approximately it and researched it yet in my life perfect now i could no longer. i'm in college and that i stay with my mothers and fathers so because it relatively is a extensive circulate. i might might desire to positioned my life on carry for 2 years besides the actuality that it relatively is precious and seems darn reliable on a resume', nonetheless. Plus i like my relatives and to be out of touch with them for weeks and on occasion months at a time is frightening. additionally, the residing circumstances. you have no longer have been given a decision as to the place you pass so it would desire to be in a distant village that has no electrical energy, no sparkling water, and is afflicted with malaria. or possibly you're assigned to a fashionable region, yet there is consistent combating/conflict or genocide. this is risky. You do get like each week of trip consistent with 365 days yet that's no longer in all probability lots. exceedingly in the journey that your pastime is strenuous. Which I think of it relatively is. i think of while you're able to do it, choose for it. The Peace Corps is an extremely good application because of the fact it helps those much less fortunate international. everybody is diverse, for some human beings the Peace Corps is life changing and it helps them see the significant/efficient issues in life till now this is too previous due.
