If like your job, ignore them. However, my favorite thing to do is to come up with some wild (strange) complaint and throw it into the mix. Like something about the toilet paper in the bathroom or something else that is very odd and complain about it to them. It is interesting to see if your new complaint makes the top of their list.

It sounds like a toxic and negative environment. Unfortunately, my past experience has been that people like that don't stop. The only solution is to get away from it. Since it doesn't sound like an option for you to simply move your seat away from them, maybe you could find an article about postive thinking and the effects it has on your life. Circulate among your coworkers and suggest that you guys start a "bitching" jar where you put a dollar in every time you say something negative. Just make sure you include yourself in the "bitcher" group or else they will just start bitching about you!

Just be direct. Let them know you empathize but you don't feel you are fully equipped to handle their grouses/ comments all the time. Also, point out that if they are so unhappy then it's time for them to seek a new job at a new company.
Basically, tell them what you think in a non-offensive way. Any response will leave u in a bit of grief--u will get flack for not wanting to hear but you will feel burdened having to listen to them whine.
Good luck!

Begin making good natured fun of them.
"Oh poor pitiful you."
"Are you going to rehash THAT subject again? Let me go get my suprised face I left it in the car."
"Yes, I KNOW. You mentioned that yesterday, and the day before that, and the day before that..."
"Life is too short to be unhappy if you don't like the company why not look into new employment?"
Never give up continue to bug them each and every time they start up and they will stop!

Small companies are hard. Although I still prefer them to working for a large corporation. Just ignore them. Starting something isn't going to help you, or anyone. It will just make coming to work harder, and give them the chance to demean you. Ignore it. Do your job. If it's distracting...simply ask them to keep it down as you are working on something you need to concentrate on.

Learn to ignore them...busting them out will just cause bad feelings. And in a small company, animosity can be a bad thing.

Say, "Sorry, I need to concentrate on my work now." As many times as necessary. They will get the message. You can even emphasize the word "my" to make your point.
If they are speaking too loudly for you to concentrate, ask them to lower their voices, and take this up with your supervisor when they return.
Good luck!

Instead of approaching the subject of bitchiness, discuss with them the overall distraction of speaking loudly when you are trying to do work.
