I know there used to be only one, but he got overwhelmed with all the resignations, and they hired more.

Yes, I do know what I'm talking about. Greg Dodge was the guy that was processing resignations. But there was at least one point where he was too busy and they hired at least 3 more people to deal with the resignations.
I'm pretty sure Greg Dodge doesn't work there anymore. I think seeing all the resignations made him lose faith, and he probably sent in his own resignation (that's purely speculation though).

If the church receives 150 resignation requests a day, you also have to take into consideration those that have not, or never will bother to resign, because they know the church has no power over them. I would say there are a lot more that don't ever send in their resignations than the ones that do.

I'm not sure what the numbers are, but I am willing to bet that if more members would actually LEARN about their religion instead of just defending it..The numbers would likely escalate..

Many members who no longer practice or believe in the religion do not follow through to resignation because:
1. They cannot face the rejection from their family members once they become aware of their "apostacy"
2. They do not want to risk the bishop sending missionaries to reconvert them, or the stake presidency sending their family members after them to guilt them into continual membership.
3. They don't want to fight with the bishop when their resignation letter is mysteriously ignored
4.They don't want to deal with a "Court of Love" that will try to excommunicate them instead of letting them resign. (Because we all know, only sinners would want to leave the church so surely excommunication is in order)

Actually, most people who fall away from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints never officially have their names removed from the records. That's why there is such a huge disparity between the near 13 million reported in April and how many actually attend Sacrament Meeting on a regular basis.

I read somewhere where the church gets about 150 requests a day. That's still rather low compared to how may people get baptised each year.

This is a stupid question. It is irrelevant. Each Bishop is responsible for the membership within his ward. When a member is removed from membership, it goes to Salt Lake City for general authority approval. Clerks then remove the membership record.
Yes, there are too many members losing their testimonies and leaving. However, the baptisms are far more numerous than the defections. We gain about 300,000 members every year. Currently we have nearly 13,000,000 members world wide.

I can't answer your question. I can however tell you that the Mormon religion is the fastest growing religion with over 5.5. million people. Random, I know....
