There has been no conclusive evidence that it is bad for humans. All the studies I have seen were done on lab animals. Maybe rats and mice are just more sensitive to aspartame than humans are. Think about it...it would take years to do a study on humans and even then there are too many other factors like genetic risk of cancer.
It makes some kids hyper because it is a chemically altered sugar molecule that has had some atoms replaced to make it 1,000 times sweeter than table sugar. Aspartame is made of amino-acids (something your body needs) that can be found in many natural foods.
I think until there is conclusive evidence from a study done on humans, there is no reason not to consume products containing it, unless you find you're sensitive to it or allergic or something.

It is widely debated, but the one thing I do know for sure is that it makes both of my children hyperactive within minutes of having anything with Aspartame in, and they don't react like that with sugar.

I have also heard that you are only supposed to have a certain amount of it on a daily basis, but the trouble is none of the products which contain Aspartame tell you how much of the stuff is in them, so you can't tell whether you are exceeding the amount you should be having or not.

Personally I avoid it altogether. It tastes horrible and I would much rather have natural sugar.

It was widely rejected for market use by the FDA due to cancer finding... These findings were not questioned, and it was not legalized until Donald Rumsfeld was hired to handle public-relations and promote it.

See, what you do is hire scientists to perform NEW studies and get only the results you're looking for.

So, just remember; Donald Rumsfeld WANTS you to eat aspartame. Not very reassuring.

Check out some of the sources I've listed below. Your jaw will drop. Search and you'll find much more.

it has been shown to cause cancer in lab rats, so yeah, it could be bad for you, but so is everything in excess. I, for one, don't believe in chemically altered food. I don't think that replacing natural sugar with a chemically enhanced sweetener to save a few calories is a good idea. It is better to use natural products and if you have a weight issue, use in moderation. I started using all organic food about a year ago, and I've never felt healthier. I don't know why people think eating chemically processed food is a good idea....it's not, it's completely unnatural, and health problems in this country have risen since the advent of processed food...you do the math, it's pretty clear to me.

Yes apartame is bad for you! It was originally produced as and ant killer because of it's properties of destroying the nervous system of ants. Which you can use as an ant killer and see for yourself! It has been known to cause brain and nervous system issues in humans and has even caused MS symptoms in some people! I would avoid it! Splenda is a nice alternative or better yet just use real sugar in moderation! Hope this is helpful!!!

I really doubt it. The competitors like Splenda claim it is but then the Equal people claim all the others are bad. They are all better than Saccharin.
