A long engagement like yours is ideal. My husband and I originally where waiting 18 months (2-23-2008). We got married already (2-24-2007) due to family issues and him left for Iraq. We are still going to Hawaii on our anniv for a renewl.
Congrats!

My finace and I are getting married On Septmber 22, 2007 and have been engaged since October 15 of 2005 so that is a 24 month engagement. We have waited that long because we are paying for our wedding oursleves plus bought a house a year ago. I think that it is a smart thing to wait because then you know you are going to get everything that you want. By the time we get married we will have been dating a little over 5 years. (September 3)
One thing I would recommend is getting all the facilities book right away so the you do get the day you are looking for.

There aren't rules for how long or short an engagement should be, but it seems like a long engagement would make sense in this instance.
Firstly, it's good that you are thinking about being financially sound. No wedding is worth starting a marriage off with serious debt. And though a house isn't necessary it is nice to start off married life with a place that belongs to the two of you.
Secondly, trust me, wedding planning is hectic, you don't want to try to do that on top of your last year in college. So many of my college friends fell apart their last semester from stress because they were graduating in May and getting married shortly after. A few of them put there friends, family and fiance though some very unnecessary - and unforgivable -abuse.
Your reasoning for waiting is excellent and you should stick to what makes you comfortable.

The 2 year mark would be my limit, you'll be under that, wait and save up your money. Plus, you can take your time planning, which is also nice. 2 years is a great time frame to plan a wedding, it helps you spread out your money better and look for deals on things because you have the time to shop around.
PS I married my HS sweetheart too, we married the Dec after graduation from college, we were engaged at age 19, so I had 2 years to plan, it was great.

No engagement is too long.
Enjoy being engaged, take your time to plan and SAVE UP for an awesome wedding day and honeymoon!
Whichever date is good for the BOTH of you.
If it would be practical to wait two years, then do so.
If you'd rather get married next year, then go for that.
My fiance and I will be engaged for a little less than two years.
Engaged: Aug '06

I've been engaged for 14 years had 3 children and will finally take the plunge in 2 weeks.
I think the timing is up to to you and your fiancee and when you think you'll be ready don't let anyone rush you or tell you different, it's your start in life together enjoy it. The last thing you want is a huge debt to look forward to after the wedding take some time and save.

My husband and I had a long engagement, we got engaged 3 months after we first started dating. I was 25, he was 32. We saved up our money for our dream wedding and got married when I was 27 and he was 35. It worked out perfectly, our day was amazing and we've now been married 2 years, together for a total of 4.

Torn on this one....my fiance and I have been engaged since last May getting married in September....we had a long engagement for financial reasons, but sometimes i wish we would have just had a couple months and got it done. Less time for everyone to give "helpful suggestions" if you know what I mean. lol.
Personally, I think that our engagement has been long...I wouldnt want it much more than that. After 22 or 23 months of planning you might be all wedding-ed out by the time it rolls around.
Just my oppinion...Good Luck and congrats on your engagement!!!

I think it's better to wait until you are financially ready for the wedding. You've been together for almost 4 years, it won't hurt to have a long engagement. Plus you'll have plenty of time to plan the wedding without getting stressed out.

My fiance is going to paramedic school and will get out 10 months before the wedding. We figured he would have time to find a job (hopefully a better paying one that will help) We are also waiting for 2009. Gives us lots of money saving time, and a lot of time to make everything perfect. It is whatever you are comfortable with but weddings are expensive. So plan accordingly.
