I don't know if you're British (like me), but a few years ago there was a census taken which asked people what religion they were. Some people didn't agree with that question being there, so they put 'Jedi' or 'Jedi Knight' as a protest. Because more than 50,000 UK citizens did this, the British Government was legally obliged to recognize 'Jedi' as a religion, whether they liked it or not (they didn't like it).

The 2001 census reveals that 390,000 people across England and Wales are devoted followers of the Jedi "faith" made famous by the blockbuster films.

The Jedi seem to me to be modelled upon chinese Taoism and Ch'an, with the martial aspect bound up with spirituality.

Before you become a Jedi, bear in mind that the movies clearly conclude that the order collapsed because it ignored the dark side, which became polarised and ultimately destroyed both. Annakin's salvation by Luke is the reunion of the light and the dark.

Taoism knows the yin and the yang. The Jedi learned to it's cost that both are necessary.

I will star this, hopefully Jedi master will see. The philosophies it follows were actually practiced in some cultures under a different name, but I do not remember the name.

There wasn't force though, just the:

Fear leads to Hate, hate leads to anger, anger leads to suffering. etc

The Jedi religion outside the films was a Census Joke, and I don't think Wikipedia is correct.

The Jedi Religion was around a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.

Shouldn't we have moved beyond that ancient fairy tale by now?

And they call Christianity a "delusional belief system", and here's a guy asking about a purely fictional film idea known as such by hundreds of millions of people.
