I think that it is a good idea. There is little risk when getting the microchip put in, it is much like any other shot that the dog gets. Then if the dog ever runs away and turns up in a shelter they will know it is your dog and bring him home.

It's an excellent idea, that way if he or she gets lost, and is recovered, then you can easily be reunited! My dog is microchipped. The micro chip is the size of a grain of rice, and it didn't even hurt my dog at all when they put it in, they just inject it. They also give you a little charm for the dogs collar stating the dog is microchipped that way if he is found by someone such as animal control then they can just look at the collar and know the dog is chipped.

I have two dogs that I adore. I had microchips placed in both of them. I live in Florida so there is a possible chance we could get hit by a really bad hurricane. We have a plan set up already but I would know that if my dog were ever put into a shelter they would know they were mine and I would get them back. Almost ever vet now has the scanner to read the chips.

A microchip is about the size of a grain of rice. It does not bother the dog in any way. Who would want to take the chance of their dog being lost without some kind of identification. Even dogs who normally wear collars can lose them if they're out on their own. A microchip is a GREAT idea.

I have the kind of dog evil people steal and use in the fighting pits - even though he's just a bait dog (I know this because that's how I got him - out of a fighting pit where he was being used as a bait dog!)

So I plan to have my sweet Baby Blue chipped - as well as tattooed inside his leg. That way he'll have a truly unique identifying mark. Very few dogs are born with inked numbers on their inside legs.

YES - I know - first it's chipping our dogs. Then it's chipping people. Well, I'd prefer to get my dog back if he turns up missing.

I think this is a very good idea. my dog has run away 4 times and we have gotten her back every time b/c of the microchip. whenever some1 finds her and takes her 2 the vet, the vet asks where the dog came from and if they found the dog they scan it 4 a microchip. we are very lucky 2 have our dog back and microchips can help other families such as our's.

Microchipping your dog is an excellent idea. We have 2 ACD's & both are microchipped. In the event your dog would get lost & is found & taken to a shelter/pound, you would get him/her back. Your name is registered to the #'s on the chip. It doesn't harm your dog. It's just like any other shot your dog gets & it WON'T come out of your dog. The shot is given between your dogs shoulders & the actual microchip is the size of a grain of rice.

It's a great idea. When you get a dog from our animal shelter, they even require it. That way, if he's ever lost, the person who finds him can check easily to find out who he belongs to without even breaking the skin. They've found several dogs that way, even when they were a long distance from their home. And it doesn't hurt the dog--it's done by injecting the microchip beneath his skin at the shoulder. It can't hurt any more than it hurts our dog when I give her insulin, and she rarely even flinches at that.

It's a great idea. I hear stories all the time about lost dogs who were able to be reunited with their owners only because they had a microchip. With life and all of its unpredictabilities I believe that they are essential.

It is a great idea. If your dog is lost they can scan him & all of your information is listed. But make sure you use a reputible company. My dog has homeagain (he was lost & returned based on his chip). I know that some of the smaller brands have had issues, including petsmart's own brand - although I think they fixed the problem.

I highly reccommend the homeagain!
