If you see your dog going to a stranger and trying to get food get out some treats and give it to your dog so he will forget about going to the stranger.

Have other people come over and play the part of the stranger so you can teach your dog to only take food from you or to only take food when you say it's ok. Have something on hand that you can give her that will be better and more interesting than whatever the "strangers" are offering so that she will learn that if she turns down whatever the stranger offers there will be an even better reward waiting for her. It will still be hard if you expect her not to take food from strangers when you're not around, because then taking the food would be it's own reward.

I have been on a walk with my dog and a stranger came up and just gave her some kind of food. I wasn't sure what it was and this guy didn't even ask if it was ok. I don't feel comfortable allowing my dog to eat food that a stranger gives to her but I haven't tried to teach her to refuse the food either. This is a really good question though.

When the people try to offer the dog say exscuse me but no. Tell your dog NO in a stern voice when a stranger offers food. And DONT HIT YOUR DOG!!! ! when it happens just give him a small yank on his leash. And if this doesent work then look in your your phonebook for dog obedience trainer.

the words "leave it"... i went to a trainer and we did the whole not taking food from strangers. what we did was whenever someone comes to the dog and tries to give it something to eat you tell the dog to leave it. it takes some patience and training but he will get it... first teach the dog "leave it".. do it with treats in your house. put a treat on the floor and tell the dog to leave it. give a little tug on the leash when you say it. after you do it a couple of times it catches on..and always reward when the correct response is given....when the food comes from you they will not need to take it from someone else. once they learn leave it. ask a neighbor to try and give the dog a treat, tug the leash and tell the dog to leave it when they try to give the dog food. make sure that you have treats on you so you can reward good behavior. my neighbor used to try to give my dog chicken knuckle's or something gross like that but i just tell Pepper to leave it and he won't touch it....
hope that it helps you...

The best trick I have ever seen for this is to teach the dog to only take food from the left hand! To do this you must praise the dog profusely when it takes food from the left hand & to reprimand sharply if it tries to take from the right.

Check with Cesar Milan, the dog whisperer. He has products to help you train your dog and can be seen on the Animal Planet TV channel. If anyone knows how to get your dog straight, I think he could do it.

Teach her the command "LEAVE IT".
And it's easy to do.
First, get hot dogs, cut into strips, then into small pieces.
Start with one HD first.
Put in bowl. sit on floor.
Dog will smell them and come right over.
As your dog goes for the HD chips, say LEAVE IT, and put your hand over the bowl. Cover it tightly.
Wait till the dog steps back, or moves nose from bowl. Reward with praise and then a sit command. Now treat with one chip of HD.
Watch dog, soon as he/she goes for bowl again, cover, repeat LEAVE IT and wait. Dog will move nose away, or face, or step back. Soon as she /he does that, give SIT command and then praise and then a hot dog chip.
Repeat. Repeat. do it for 5 mins or so. Then stop.
A few hours later do it again.
And again.
Repeat until you see your dog responds to LEAVE IT.
Then put a piece of HD in your hand, hold it flat open, let dog come for it, then say Leave it, and close your hand. Wait till she/he backs up and then SIT, then praise, then treat.
It works. My dog knows this well.
I can drop food while cooking, ie: slicing onion, it slips, falls to floor, LEAVE IT, dog does not touch.
Out in the street, walking, a dead animal, bird, rabbit, whatever, he goes to sniff, LEAVE it and he does.
Easy to teach, just takes time. But if you work at it several times a day for a few minates, in a week, he'll have it down pat.
Then go outside, drop HT chip, give command to Leave it, and see what happens. But be prepared to step on HD chip if he goes for it. Also be prepared with another treat for a reward for Leaving it.
