Oscar Wilde also said:
"...And beauty is a form of genius-- is higher, indeed, than genius, as it needs no explanation. It is of the great facts of the world, like sunlight, or spring-time, or the reflection in dark waters of that silver shell we call the moon. It cannot be questioned. It has its divine right of sovereignty. It makes princes of those who have it. . . . People say sometimes that beauty is only superficial. That may be so, but at least it is not so superficial as thought is. To me, beauty is the wonder of wonders. It is only shallow people who do not judge by appearances. The true mystery of the world is the visible, not the invisible. . . ."

I don't agree with the quotation, but I also don't hold beauty any less important than wisdom, whoever its owner is: a man or a woman.

In some ways that's quite correct...How well do women know how to use their beauty to get what they want? Jennifer Weiner takes note of it in "In Her Shoes", when Rose is sure that her sister Maggie's leg, exposed as she lies on the couch, is a 'calculated display' in front of Rose's own man, Jim. Men are often oblivious to this kind of thing (I have often pointed out to my husband what other women are trying to do to get his attention) which makes this sort of wisdom our own. I don't think men really try to attract women to them physically through tricks like that, but when they do, I think they end up looking effeminate (think male models). And yes, most women are drawn to wise men, so I suppose that is their beauty.

p.s. I don't take this to mean that women's only wisdom is beauty and that only men can be wise (which seems to be how others are interpreting it). If I thought it meant that, I might also think that it could mean that only women can be beautiful and that wisdom is the only thing that can make men beautiful. I don't think it means that, either.

i wouldn't agree with this because even though women are beautifull they are perhaphs the wisest of the two sexes. women are the ones with true sensible wisdom for they think about all of the angles of the situation before making a decision while men usually follow their instics and more than often end up making the wrong choice. men are wise in their own way but it is often true that no matter what, a woman is always behind such wisdom

“No object is so beautiful that, under certain conditions, it will not look ugly.” ~~Oscar Wilde

Or, as another wise person once said: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, especially when you are looking at your own image in the mirror.
