My first job was waiting tables at a regional chain retaurant. Also, a lot of local, midsized restaurants will hire from a younger, minimally experienced crowd. The food industry is always in need for help. Don't cut yourself short by applying only at the better reputation, classier places. Remember this is only a first job, which is really just for providing experience on your next application. You could try a local library or small clothing stores.

I know it's rough!!! If there is a Potbelly Sandwich Works near you, definitely go apply there, and ask to speak with the manager when you turn in your application. They are always hiring young kids without any experience. As long as you have a good personality they'll train you!
If not, keep trying! Try to get a job dog walking... Or in a real estate office answering phones or something. Look on www.craigslist.com for jobs, that is a great resource.
Good luck!

Dont waste your time and energy with small-time jobs. Start networking, speak to your parents, friends parents and family members. They can help you find a "real-job" that will open up for better jobs in the future. What happens when you take a job at Burger King making $6 an hour and you want a nice office job? They want skills, do filing or answer phones. This will be a great stepping stone for you.

If this is your first job, don't get picky esp. if you have no experience. Any fast food place will hire you, and that's a start. Most grocery stores will hire and train you if they need the help. Just keep trying. Someone will hire you!
