then can i get the vista service pack onto the computer using a free download. or do i have to pay for the download. or is it just not possible to upgrade vista to the service pack

no service packs are free downloads. they come through with windows update

Well, first Vista actually needs a service pack (Yep, its still buggy)...

Once the service pack does come out, the download will be free and you will be able to upgrade Vista. All downloads will be available at the Microsoft website, although having automatic updates turned on will download it anyway, so no problems there =)

not sure cuz Vista IS BAD. i think service packs are free. at least they were.

It will be free and if you have Automatic Updates turned on, it will do it automatically.

Once it's released, you can go to the Windows Update site to manually do it yourself if you'd like.
