We do believe in universal truth and that universal truth will be the path to liberation from suffering. We also believe that the spirit passes into the universe and returns until we have learned to remove our own suffering by desiring to remove suffering in others. We honor the Buddha as a spiritual ancestor who can light the path but cannot intervene on our behalf. We have to take responsibility for our own actions. I also honor Jesus in the same way. Om shanti (that shanti-town was pretty funny)

Everybody has a different universal truth so by killing you do destroy universal truth. If we all had the same universal truth it would really be universal and then it would not matter who died.
Buddhism does not have a soul, does not even accept that there is any permanent entity that is me, and do not have a God Spirit. Om shanti-town may have spiritual power as a means of focusing your mind. I will try it for you.
Buddhism tries to actually cultivate the mind rather than destroy brain cells but I have no real way of measuring how successful it is.
I hope that you enjoy your Universal Truth.

somebody needs to research history for the causes of Pearl Harbour and the Japanese are not Buddhists but animists practicing Shinto.

very good question, very good one indeed, though you might consider the form you state it.

'God Spirit' is rather a shabby translation. what it actually means is an 'idea', a 'sense', a 'principle' of full understanding of that the mind of the observer IS this world, hence the observer could abandon discrimination and suffering. stillness and emptiness, that what it means, though it has nothing to do with the images you recalled while reading these words. the principle of no discrimination can not be described by words, for words have the discrimination as their reason. i can only hint, show the direction, and only the reader can make effort to walk this path.

regarding killing braincells. i can not tell whether you are right in this assumption for i see no evidence of either the statement or its refutation be correct.

regarding 'Why are buddhist more concerned about NOT killing anything than believing Universal Truth?'
rather simple. it is a natural outcome of the boddhisattva path. imagine that you cleared your conduct from all discrimination and selfish desires. now, that you don't think of sex, food, entertainment, etc. and are happy because have no unfulfilled wishes, what would you think about? those around you who are unhappy. first step to help them is to not destroy them. as it is written in nearly every text of tripitaka, all things are unborn and dwell in nirvana from the very beginning. all a boddhisattva do is help them realize this. and it is not always necessary for i've seen cases when people achieved liberation without assitanse.

not killing is not an absolute requirement. if you would view vinaya texts, you'll find that even when a monk makes his vows, he tells not that he will not kill whatsoever, but promises that he will do his best to not kill. killing is not always a failure.

for example, many traditions of tibetian buddhism consider eating meat acceptable and fine.

if you would decide to study these matters in more details, i would advise you to read lankavatara

Pure buddhism teaches that there's no such thing as a soul other than what's produced by your brain. You have to learn that everything dies eventually and that it's a normal part of life. Fear of death is brought by suffering. Life is suffering. The source of suffering is desire. Practicing bouddhism brings you inner-peace with the fact that you are not eternal.

It is the now-soul that bouddhism cultivates. Killing darkens the soul and bring suffering to yourself, the one you kill the World in general and promotes suffering for the future.

The Universal Truth for buddhist is that there is no Universal Truth, only the pursuit of It.

The God-spirit you speak of is from the "religious" branches of Buddhism who believe in gods and demons. It is not God as christians believe, but the Buddha who has reached Enlightment and guides humanity.

Perhaps I have killed too many brain cells, but essentially we don't believe in a "soul" and the concept of an omnipotent creator being is illogical.

We're more concerned about altruism, "Universal Truth" is rather dependent upon the observer and their perceptions. Off to kill a few more brain cells on the bike to nowhere!
