A LONG run. Usually 3 miles or more. Aerobic exercise stimulates the Brain. It is like cleansing your thoughts. It is very soothing. I can communicate with God when I run too. Try it.

Where to start. I worked on that all my life. I found that my family used judgment word almost exclusively. It wasn't taken to seriously, but they are words you can't think with. Science is an unbiased look at a situation, unemotional even. So I said, that's easy I'll only use descriptive words. Boy, that's an absolute and gets absolute results. With people I could see that when they where having a bad life or day. their anger was catchy, as is love, hate, fear, and any strong emotion. I was feeling their anger and mine weld up, because I had collected plenty over the years. Then when I say they were hurting I became sad for them. Compassion is love. Also I sat with my pain, because that is bearable. Anger is not very easy to deal with, pain is. What a transformation from fear to love. Everything is from those two places is you divids everything into two. Fear would go under hate. Negative and positive. I still got caught off guard, but now it's getting to be more of an art. With other things though, I still had a problem, like is I dropped something or couldn't get the top off. Then I realized that I was judging myself. The brain is an equal opportunity employer, like a computer, it will judge you if you judge. A new tack came to me. An unusual idea, probably from the spirit you get in contact with in the process somehow. (I had found out about Emotional Intelligence as a subject also) I say myself as asking my body to do something and being very harsh on it for none compliance. I "saw" that I was asking it to do something and should be very kindly, like asking anyone, especially someone you love and works for you. A lesson for bosses. I'm still marveling at that thought. I have a new love. lol That's a good way to treat other people too, but you have to treat yourself good also, maybe first. A bad boss is probably hard on themselves and family as well.

I usually react to extreme anger by doing one of the following:

1) I compulsively clean my house (have you ever tried to argue with someone who's mopping a floor?);
2) I am silent and listen to the other person's remarks, without defending myself (this works extraordinarily well with irrational people);
3) I tell the other person that they've made me quite angry and I must step away so I don't say something I don't mean;
3) If I am unable to control myself, I will yell, but only if I'm being yelled at also. I'm trying to stop this approach because, as my Southern Belle grandmother always said: "when you lose your temper, you've lost control over the situation."

How do I relax to get rid of anger? I usually wander off by myself to think, or maybe read. I rarely hold onto anger very long, even in the worst of circumstances.

It depends on if I'm by myself when I'm super angry. If I am then I'll rant and rave for a few minutes and then sit and think about what happened to cause that anger. I talk to myself to work through it all. If someone else is around I try to keep my anger to myself.

I always remember that once I say something it can never be taken back. So, I'm careful at the words I speak.

The exact same thing I answered a few questions ago about how I deal with stress. Running.

Honestly, I have no idea how I controlled my emotions before I started running.

If I'm in a situation when I can't run (like sitting at my desk at work and answering questions on Y!A) I just grit my teeth and my to respond without losing my temper. Then I stand up and stretch, then sit down and email someone who knows and loves me just to say hi. I'm usually in a much better mood by then.

Going into my bedroom and staring at a candle. That usually helps me calm down and feel more relaxed. I can't do the 'count to 10' thing. It never works for me. If I'm not at home, I guess I just try to think of something calming, like a beach or a forest.

Also taking baths or showers help as well as sleeping and going for a walk.

Music helps me relax. If possible I jump in the car and turn on the tunes and just drive.
Usually when I am very angry I am silent and I will walk away. If someone gets in my way I tell them I need to leave...if they are still in my face then generally I smack them.
I dont get angry very often but when I do I consider it fair warning that I asked someone to leave me be.

First of all I really don't get angry. But once in a great while everyone gets mad. It is a natrual emotion that everyone is faced with. When I get real mad I just remeber 3 little words the great John Lennon said. "Let it be". Just let it be just let it go nothing or no one in your life should be able to ruin YOUR day f*ck it or fight it it's all the same you just have to choose the one you want. Let it be.

Sadness...I hum or sing the song...Give thanks & let the cleansing, healing tears fall.
Frustration...A few, slow deep breathes, then slow exhales. And repeat over and over, "All things work together for good to those who love The Lord."
Tiredness...I repeat over and over to myself, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
Anger...I take a walk & empty my mind of the red haze clouding my heart and mind at the person or thing I am angry with. And I remember Ephesians 4:31 which says, "Let all bitterness, wrath, anger & evil speaking be put away from you."

Whenever I get crazy with any of my emotions, I read. I know that I should read my Bible but I find that fiction works the b est. Getting into someone else's world takes that edge off what is going on in mine. After I calm down, then I pray.
