So you show them to be scared?

Aren't you the brilliant pack leader. Do not give in to this. Just go about your business as if nothing is going on. You need to show them its okay.

Don't show that you're afraid. Just go about your business so they see there's nothing to be afraid of.

Give them some Rescue Remedy: www.rescueremedy.com when a storm approaches.

Turn on the TV or a radio to help mask some of the noise.

You can help calm your dogs' fears by being brave yourself. That doesn't mean that you should be cold and unfeeling - but being blase about the storm will go a long way to making them feel more at ease.

Also, speak with your vet - and maybe she'll be able to prescribe a mild sedative that your pooches can take if they get really upset about the thunder.

I had a GSD with a spastic colon - who was afraid of thunder. You bet we sedated him! Phew!

Well unless you live somewhere where lightnight storms happen often, just let them be scared and curious. It's unfamiliar as it sounds like a war is going on outside to your pets. Just turn up the tv or get them going by playing with their toys to distract them. Tomorrow is 4th of July..so it's going to be crazy to all pets anyway. You honestly can't do a whole lot to what nature (and holiday) noise. They'll pace and freak, give them treats and praise and pet them. By staying with you they'll be less scared..and by you acting more tense they'll be more tense. Just go about your business at home and they'll be fine.

I would get them something like Comfort Calm it is a treat that calms their nerves. I have a nervous chi and I got these for her and they help. She get really nervous and her blood pressure rises when she has to go to the vet. I would call your vet to see if they recommend a certain brand.

They sense your fear, act as if nothing is happening, reinforce normal behaviour during aa storm do not reinforce the fear they have during the storm luv to your babies

the first thing you have to do is to act all big and brave. if the dogs sense that you are scared and hiding under the covers they know your fear and they too fall apart. oh no mom is scared too--this must be bad--is what they are thinking.
