Why shouldn't a 13-year old get a vaccine that will protect her against several potentially cancer-causing strains of HPV? Should you wait until it's too late?

You don't have to get it, but I recommend it because it surely won't be a bad thing to be protected from certain types of HPV/Cervical Cancer. The vaccine though doesn't work for all, so if you are sexually active (hopefully not because you are too young) or become sexually active in the future, always use other protection because HPV is linked to sexual transmission.
EDIT: Cindy w, the HPV vaccine will not protect you from Herpes. HPV is not Herpes.

Absolutely. Gardisil, the vaccine, is recommended for girls and women 9 to 26. A word of advice: You're 13, try to spell better.

YES! The virus is the leading cause of cervical cancer. If you get the vaccine it will help to prevent (not stop completely) the chances of you ever having cervical cancer. If you go to your local WIC office you can get the details and the vaccine from them.

YES,YES,YES,YES.. My Mom is a nurse. Let me tell u what she told me. yes, it's new. Will it protect u 100%,they don't know yet. Why? it will take 5 maybe 10 yrs. before they know the full affect. It's a dose of "3" injections over a 6-mo. period. But we have a BETTER & HIGHER chance of not getting herpes than ever before. And u know thats a life long virus, once u have it. Do it!!!!!, you'll be gald u did...

If you are sexually active, then you should get one. If not, you don't need it.
