Please DO NOT give stupid silly answers. This is a serious question.

Viruses are essentially parasites that kill healthy people and animals. What benign purpose could the serve? How was their role played out in the Garden of Eden?

If you are a Christian evolutionist... God uses evolution to create life... so "they evolved" is not really an explanation for anything.

Hopefully you realize that about 90% of the micro-organism on the earth are helpful for humans and other life. Without them life would probably not exist on earth.

They are responible for many of the process that make survival possible. They clean up much of the garbage and pollution on the planet.

It is only a small percentage which carry diseases. Even those have some kind of a benefit when not inside a host body. But because of sin, the Bible says that the human (and plant and animal) life is degrading. Our immune systems can not longer protect against all the things God originally designed it to guard against. So things that once would have been beneficial are now deadly.

God created the viruses and other micro-organism to support life on earth. Sin as corrupted things to where some of them have been deadly instead.

Genesis1:31 " And God saw every thing that he had made, and behold it was very good."

In the beginning every thing was perfect. There was no death or disease. However once Adam sinned a curse fell upon this world.

Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

Now the world we see today is a lost and dying world with sickness and death. However God will soon restore it to the way it should be.

Revelation 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea."
Revelation 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall they be any more pain: for the former things have passed away."

Praise God that it will not always be like this. We are only passing through, this world is not our home. When you put your faith in Jesus you have an eternity in Heaven to look forward to.

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

Only believe and Heaven is open to you.

1 John 5:13 “ These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that you have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”

God Bless You.

Looking at this from a religious point of view, why don't you also ask why did G-d make pestilance and poison? All that we suffer from now is caused by our forceful ejection from Paradise. All that we suffer from now, whether it be from viruses, cancers, parasites, or flesh eating disease is because G-d is punishing us for the original sin.

And as long as we are looking at this from a religious standpoint... why do you question His judgement? Don't you Christians believe you have to suffer to get to Paradise?

Everything that God created is good...but don't forget that Satan is around to. If you can believe in God enough to blame Him for something, then you have to acknowledge Satan as well. Satan's main ambition is to corrupt what God creates. To cause bad things to come from good things. Like, water is good.. but it can kill. Air is good but now there are pollutants in the air that can make you sick. Viruses has a reason to be here, but it is Satan that corrupted them to make us sick.

It is said that disease-spreading, poisonous and venomous creatures come into existence because of the great amount of unresolved evil in the world. When humanity collectively renounces evil and selfishness, and turns toward the collective good, disease and harmful creatures will vanish from the face of the earth. Until then, such things will continue to exist, and even proliferate.

Because Adam and Eve lost immortality by eating from Tree of Knowledge, and were exiled from heaven. According to christianity, that's why we die, from innumerable causes, viruses included. And viruses don't kill only people and animals. Bacteriophages kill bacteria, even deadly ones.

Viruses are essentially entities that lack inherent existence, i.e. they arise due to causes and conditions are more rapidly changing than most macro-organisms and impermanent.
