Hi Ya. this is quite complecated and will need great consentration. before we start you will loose everything on your PC. Tjis is the cost of doing an installation wrong I'm afraid. You have two copy's of win XP. one is the original which is in the boot sector. before you can install another OS you first have to remove the first one. You cannot put another XP on the same system. Don't worry it can be fixed. first you have to format the HD but you have to do it in a special way. I will post the instructions if you do not understand them then you may contact me masterwhowho@msn.com
REMOVING XP FROM A COMPUTER AND REINSTALLING XP
You will need a windows 98 start up floppy disk. (I know your not installing 98 but this disk is required.)
1. PUT THE DISK INTO YOUR A: DRIVE AND RESTART YOUR COMPUTER.
2. AT THE A:\PROMPT TYPE FDISK, A DIALOGE BOX WILL COME UP ASKING YOU ABOUT THE PARTITIONS. DELETE ALL THE PARTIONS.
3. ONCE THIS HAS BEEN DONE. GO BACK TO THE A: PROMPT AND THIS TIME TYPE IN (FORMAT C:)THIS WILL FORMAT YOUR HD. ie WIPE EVERYTHING OFF YOUR PC. ONCE THIS HAS BEEN DONE, RETURN TO THE A:\PROMPT AND TYPE IN FDISK AGAIN.
4. THIS TIME YOU WILL NEED TO CREATE A PARTITION AND MARK IT AS PRIMERY ACTIVE.
5. ONCE YOU HAVE DONE ALL THIS YOU ARE NOW READY TO INSTALL WINDOWS XP.
6. GO TO THE A:\ PROMPT, OPEN YOUR CD ROM DRIVE AND PUT YOUR XP DISK IN. (do not close the cd rom at this point) SWITCH OFF THE PC AND REMOVE THE FLOPPY DISK.
7. SWITCH THE PC BACK ON AND IF THE CDROM DRAW DOES NOT CLOSE THEN CLOSE IT.
8. YOU SHOULD NOW BE ABLE TO INSTALL XP AS USUALL.
All the best follow these instructions carefully.

You should probably install the OS again. This time when it asks do you want to install to the same partition, drop down a line or to and follow the instruction on deleting and then creating the existing partition. After XP has created the partition, it will format that partition and then begin the installation.

You have actually loaded an second copy, what you should have done is used the d (delete) option to remove the original partition, then created a new one, or used the R (repair) option to fix the old install. The only sure way around this is to re-install and use the d (delete partition) option this time.

You can hide this option by changind the boot.ini file. For doing this right click your my computer icon->properties->Advanced->Startup and Recovery option. Click settings. One pop up window will open showing all the installed windows partition. Remove the XP from the list and set the timeout to 0. It wont pop up again. But this wont uninstall your windows xp. That is quite big step. If you want to know that, mail me.
