This is a very important issue. Jesus never claimed himself to be equal to his Father, he was here to teach about his Father's purpose and the promised Kingdom. I'm sure Jesus would be very hurt and upset, maybe angered and embarassed to be worshiped as equal to his Father. He ALWAYS redirected the worship to Jehovah and away from himself. Jehovah is a jealous God and does not share worship. He is one God. He created all and deserves the love and praise for all he has done. His name is to be sanctified.
There are a couple of questions that you need to ask yourself to help clarify this answer for yourself.
The first should be;
What is the origin of the trinity doctrine.
The New Encyclopedia Britannica says: Neither the word Trinity, nor the explicit doctrine as such, appears in the New Testament, nor did Jesus and his followers intend to contradict the Shema in the Old testament. Deut 6:4 The Lord our God is one Lord ...
The doctrine developed gradually over several centuries and through many controversies. Prior to the 4th century this teaching was not solidly established and certainly not fully assimilated into Christian life. The Greek philosopher Plato is credited with the conception of the divine trinity. This is not a christian teaching. A 3 person God.
Next ask;
Even though Trinitarians acknowledge neither the word "Trinity" nor a statement of the Trinitarian dogma is found in the Bible, are the concepts found in the Bible.
Does the Bible teach that the "Holy Spirit" is a person?
Bible texts say that people were "filled" with holy spirit, some were "baptized" with it or "anointed" with it. These references to holy spirit definitely do not fit a person.
The holy spirit is Gods active force.
The Bible tells us the name of the Father (Psm 83:18) Jehovah. They inform us that the Son is named Jesus Christ but nowhere in the Scriptures is a personal name applied to the holy spirit. It is Jehovah's force. Acts 7:55,56 reports that stephen was given a vision of heaven in which he saw "Jesus standing at God's right hand". He made no mention of seeing the holy spirit. The holy spirit is something, not someone. It is the power of God.
Next question;
Does the Bible agree with those who teach that the Father and the Son are not separate and distinct individuals?
Matt 26:39 Jesus fell on his face and prayed "My Father, if it possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt."
If the Father and Son were not distinct individuals, such a prayer would have been meaningless. Jesus would have been praying to himself.
John 8:17,18 (Jesus answered the Jewish Pharisees) In your law it is written that the testimony of 2 men is true; I bear witness to myself, and the Father who sent me bears witness to me" Jesus definitely spoke of himself as being an individual separate and distinct from his Father.
The Bible teaches that Jesus was created, he had a beginning and ending. Jehovah God has no beginning or ending.
God is the creator, everything else including Jesus was created by Him with the use of his powers, his holy spirit.
In the trinity teachings one is not said to be greater than the other...
Mark 13:32 "Of that day or that hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, or the Son, but only the Father." This would not be the case if Father, Son and Holy Spirit were coequal, comprising one Godhead. Some suggest the Son was limited by his human nature from knowing, the question remains, why did the Holy Spirit not know?
When Jesus was killed and lay dead for 3 days prior to resurrection are you saying that Almighty God was dead, then resurrected himself to sit at his own right hand? Doesn't make logical sense and God is very orderly and logical.

No, it does not mean we believe in 4 Gods. The word God does not necessarily have to refer to the entire trinity every time you see it. God can mean Father, Son, Holy Spirit separately or in unity... but they are still ONE GOD. Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. The Father is Creator (Isaiah 64:8, 44:24), the Son is Creator (John 1:3; Hebrews 1:10;Colossians 1:15-17), the Holy Spirit is Creator (Job 33:4, 26:13).

The Bible does not speak of what you just mentioned which is known now as the trinity. It is a false teaching and is nowhere mentioned in the Bible. Peter warned of false teachers infiltrating the congregations and to be aware as they would come in as sheep but be as wolves with their false information to mislead so many. By the look of things today, that very false practice is being done world wide, and not just with the teaching of the ridiculous trinity; look at the Islamic, Buddist, Catholic (who teach purgatory of which is nowhere in the Bible), Mormons, and the list goes on and on unfortunately. When you worship Jehovah God you must do so with truth in mind and spirit, not "Well, I don't understand it and it's never been fully explained, but it truth" garbage. There are so many very foolish people who choose to believe a lie and have nothing to back up their false claims. They are just bent on "it's my way or the highway", blinded, foolish, empty pride, and for what? Just because "they want it to be a way --- that it is not"?
At Armageddon many will lose their lives because of their rebelliousness or just following a certain religion because it allows them to lead immoral, disgusting lifestyles with no reproving from their false religious leaders. Yes, sadly most will lose their lives at Armageddon. I hope I am not amongst them. I have a strong hope of everlasting life on a paradise earth.
Great question and point.

I have to respond to LordsArmor....first of all 1 John 5:7 & 8 in the New International Version reads...
7"For there are three that testify: 8the[a] Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement."
Several other translations agree that ONE in this instance means, rather, ONE in agreement, or in perfect agreement.
As for Ephesians 2:8 & 9 , yes, it is not by works that one is saved, but it IS by works that one show that he has faith...
(James 2:26) “. . .Indeed, as the body without spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.”
LordsArmor mentioned 1 John 5:13, even Satan BELIEVES, but his works show which side he is on, and it is not God's!
Now, Line Dancer, as for your question, well, the bible just does not teach the trinity! God is not a triune God. You have some very good answers that show that Jehovah is the only true God, and I can only add one thought that I didn't see already...
(John 17:3) “. . .This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ.”
I would just like to bring out a few things from this verse...Jesus himself said this, and he used the separating word "AND" after saying "the only true God" and inserted the word "AND" which clearly separates himself from the only true God, and he even says that he was sent forth (by the only true God), so he is clearly showing here that he, (Jesus himself) is not God, but rather the one whom God sent forth as his representative. Jesus had such a marvelous position in heaven, loving and pleasing his Father all the time, that Jehovah saw fit to send him to fulfill his will on earth! The Bible teaches us such wonderful things about God (Jehovah) and his loving Son, Jesus Christ! Why people have to go and distort the beautiful truth with the false man-made doctrine of the trinity never ceases to amaze me! Satan loves it though!
(Revelation 12:9) “9 So down the great dragon was hurled, the original serpent, the one called Devil and Satan, who is misleading the entire inhabited earth; he was hurled down to the earth, and his angels were hurled down with him.”
"the one called Devil and Satan, who is misleading the ENTIRE inhabited earth"

They do not combine and equal one. Satan wants us to believe that, but we can't let God's enemy keep us from knowing who the one true God really is.
God would never make himself a mystery to us. How then could we worship someone whom we don't fully understand?
Deuteronomy 6:4--"Hear, O Israel: Jehovah our God is one Jehovah" ASV
(Notice it does not say our God is three Gods)

God is a, meaning one, being. He came to earth as a man. His spirit is present here on earth now. You can see him by faith. You can turn what you know about God, about Jesus, about the Holy Spirit all around and what you will see will be God.
Now, when you create a doctrine, and call it The Trinity doctrine, then you have a problem. Then you're talking about a concept and making a concept into a god, and making a god out of your understanding.

During Jesus' ministry here on earth, he repeatedly said he is the Son of God, NOT himself God. Repeatedly he says of himself 'and' God or "My Father."
This shows TWO SEPERATE individuals*.
And Never does he say 'the 3 of us,'
ALWAYS it's the Father and Son; TWO, NOT THREE*.
@ Jesus' baptism, John knew Jesus was God's own special Son, when Jesus comes up from the water, a voice from heaven proclaims "This is my Son, the beloved, whom I have approved."
Jesus is called " 'the Lamb of God' that takes away the sin of the world"
When Jesus cleans out the temple of merchants he says "Stop making the house of my Father a house of merchandise"; His Father's house; NOT his own house.
When talking to Nicodemus, he says: "Rabbi, we know that you as a teacher have come from God; for no one can perform these signs that you perform unless God is with him."
Jesus goes on to tell him; "God loved the world so much that he gave his only-begotten Son, in order that those exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life." Jesus makes clear that he is Jehovah God's means for saving humankind. Jesus goes on to explain further to Nicodemus: "For God sent His Son forth into the world....for the world to be saved through him"
In Jesus' hometown synagogue, he reads from the scroll of Isaiah, he finds the place where it tells of the One anointed by Jehovah's spirit (chpt. 61), then he speaks @ some length, explaining "Today this scripture that you just heard is fulfilled."
After the 1st 4 disciples are called they go into Capernaum, there is a demonized man is present, after a while, he shouts w/ a loud voice "I know exactly who you are, the Holy One of God" Later, as he's healing many ppl, no matter what their diseases are. He frees even the demon-possessed. As they come out, the demons shout: "You are the Son of God" but Jesus does not allow them to speak because they know he is the Christ.
After healing a man on the Sabbath, in answering his accusers (the Pharisees) Jesus says "My Father has kept working until now, and I keep working" he goes on to say "The Father has affection for the Son and shows him all the things He Himself does" After even more accusations Jesus goes on to tell them, "The works themselves that I am doing bear witness about me that the Father dispatched me."
*God Himself bore witness about Jesus @ his baptism saying "This is my Son, the beloved."
---------------God Can Not Lie/ Does Not--------------------------
Even, Peter said "I know you are the Son of God, the Messiah"
The Pharisees and Sadducees @ the Sanhedrin accused him of blasphemy for calling himself God's own Son.
(Imagine what they would have done if he said he was God,
as those who spout the trinity do)
Not once, EVER did he say he was God.
He is called a god, NOT the Almighty God.
@ 1 Cor. 15:27,28 it says:
For God "subjected all things under his feet." But when he says that 'all things have been subjected,' it is evident that it is with the exception of the one who subjected all things to him.(28) But when all things will have been subjected to him, then the Son himself will also subject himself to the One who subjected all things to him, that God may be all things to everyone.
*I could be here for a month of Sundays,
But, if YOU don't believe God, how would YOU believe me*.
edit: just a 'lil personal addition..... when I hear/ read such lies about our Loving Creator and His Loving Son;
It makes me sick to my stomach, & I feel pity for you; being taught such lies. Then I don't feel pity, cuz, YOU believe it. With no sound reasoning.

I like to think of the Godhead as a sports team. There are three members, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Each has their role to play and each is a God. They are seperate beings, but one in purpose. John 17 explains it pretty well. John 14:26

God is triune being.
1 John 5:7 " For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word ( Jesus), and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one."
Genesis 1:1 " In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth."
The hebrew word for God is 'ĕlôhîym. This is plural meaning three or more.
God created us in his image. We are also a triune being. We are mind, body and spirit each one different but all the same.
Yes, the trinity is a difficult concept to understand, but that is what makes God great. A great God that loves us and wants us to be with him. He doesn't ask us to fully understand him only to believe in him.
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
Ephesians 2:8-9 “ For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man boast.”
1 John 5:13 “ These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that you have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”
God Bless You.
