It is not a religion of peace. Islam is full of opression and violence. Just look at the middleeast.

You question shows you are not using the same definition of peace that the Muslims use.
For most of us Westerners, peace means not being at war. For the Muslims, peace comes when everyone accepts Islam. By their definition, Saudi Arabia is at peace. Any place that has not accepted Islam is not at peace, which is most of the world. Therefore "fighting for peace" and Jihad are the same thing.
This logic also extends to the two sects of Islam, for peace to be in effect, one version must win out over the other. Therefore Pakistan and Iraq are not at peace because both sects are still fighting it out. So when they blow up each others mosques, or kill each other, they are "fighting for peace" and once they wipe out the other, and wipe out all non-Muslims, they will have peace.
And that is what they mean when they say Islam is a religion of peace. Peace can exist only when they are the only ones left.

Its is only a religion of peace when everybody and everyhting agrees with islam...
Its a religion of murder by virtue of the actions of its leaders.
