I'd think it'd be okay so it can cool the water down when she comes in from outside, but I'm afraid when she's drinking it she might accidently choke on one. Is it okay or not?

It really depends on what kind og dog you have. Most small dogs don't like to dunk their head in the water for the ice cubes so they just lick them in the water. Big dogs might be a hassle. They like going into water after balls and toys and any other thing they can fit in their mouth.lol. So if you have a big dog,she might try to grab the ice cube from the water bowl. I'm pretty sure that all she would do is eat the ice cubes, but hey, if I can choke on skittles, your dog can choke on an ice cube. If you really feel uncomfortable about the ice cubes, you can put his bowl in the fridge(not the freezer) while she is sleeping or outside to cool it down a bit.

Ice cubes in your dog's water is a fine way to give her a cool drink on a hot day.

Dogs lap up their water - as opposed to sucking it down like we do. So there's very little chance they'll choke on an ice cube.

You can also make pupsickles - Place a cup of soft cooked vegetables, and a hand full of chunks of cooked meat (like a whole chicken breast cut into bits) put into a large plastic container. Add 2 cups low sodium broth and 2 cups water - or all water - and freeze until rock-solid. Great for outdoors.

My Baby Blue (a pit bull) will play with one of these for hours.

Perfectly ok. I put cubes in my dog's bowl all the time. They can crunch them just like people. No, I don't do if for them to chew though, I actually do it for the same reason, to help keep the water cold. I've never seen any of my dogs, I've had 5 over the years so far, ever choke on a cube.

I'd still be worried about her choking- whilst dogs might have been eating ice for years without problems, your dog isn't going to expect to find ice-cubes in her drinking water and if she's come in from outside and is desperate for a drink then she might swallow one by mistake.

If you want to make her water colder allow the ice-cubes time to melt in the bowl before putting it on the floor for her- the water will still be cold but there won't be anything in the water for her to choke on.

I'm not sure if that's a good idea, not because of the choking, but because a dog's little tummy might get cramps from drinking ice water after being outside where it's hot. Just run fresh, cold water and that ought to be fine enough for her.

=) of course it's okay, I think its a great idea! I do that with my dog, and he doesnt choke on them. He mostly leaves them in his bowl, but if he takes them out, he chews them up really good before swallowing. Maybe you can put ice chips in there instead, or if you want to put ice cubes, just kind of supervise her while the ice cubes are still whole in her bowl. They will melt down small pretty quickly. I think you should do it!

Dont try to invite the problems by putting ice cubes. If you want to give cool water, put some chilled water with normal water in bowl.

Of course it's just frozen water my aunt use to do that sometimes with her dog well.... before it died =(. So yea you can put ice cubes in ur dogs water bowl I don't see why not. If she does acciedently choke on one it will melt down her throwt be it kills her anyways and if she does then I'd say take out the little cubes of ice then.

I give my dogs ice cube like dog treats especially after our walk when they need a cool down. Putting them in the bowl is fine but mine always would just dunk their face and splash the water until they got they ice cube. It caused a mess so now we just give them the ice.

I'll think she'll be fine my friend feeds her dog ice cubes, of course dog food too, but the dog loves em. If your that worried though then just get new water. It's just like food though and water. You can choke on anything.
