Coleman tents are good, inexpensive, basic, summertime car-camping tents, but they're not as well made, innovative or high tech as other tent companies that make top quality three-season, four-season, and mountaineering tents. Some of the top tent brands are Marmot, Bibler, Mountain Hardware, MSR, Sierra Designs, The North Face, Kelty, and REI. http://www.rei.com/search?vcat=REI_SEARCH&query=tents&x=0&y=0

Coleman tents are good, inexpensive, car camping tents for people who will only use them a few times per year in moderate conditions. I have an old moss tent (probably 500 bucks new) and a black diamond megamid. They are both amazingly good. If you are just going to go car camping a few nights a year, get the coleman tent. If you plan on doing a lot of backpacking, spend the money and get something nice. MSR, Black Diamond, Bibler, are all good brands.

RE:
Does Coleman make the best tents?
We are going camping soon, and want to buy a tent. Everywere we go, we see Coleman tents, and other name brands. I want to know the better name brands for tents if any, and which to stay away from. Please help!

No...coleman are probably the most popular cheap tents.
Good tents are expensive.
For my family I use an Eureka Tent. However those cost about 500 bucks.

Hi there, If it's the same tent lights that we have here in Australia, you hold the base in one hand then hold the top in the other then squeeze the top peice sides where it joins the base. I actually broke one of these forcing it open the first time. Cheers, ToNy!

The best tents are Eureka without a doubt. I've been using them for over 40 years. I have 3 that are over 20 years old and I've only replaced the slides on a couple of the zippers. I wouldn't buy any other brand.
