As a veteren of 26 Nextel Cup Series, 13 Busch Series, and other numerous Truck and ARCA series races, I can easily tell you its definitely worth going. Theres nothing like seeing a race live, with the roar of the engines, and the smell of exhaust and tire rubber. I still get goosebumps during the parade laps and seeing the cars go by at top speed after the green flag is such a rush.

If you go to a Nextel Cup race, I highly recommend renting either a scanner or the Nextel Fan View. This will allow you listen to the teams communications and the radio broadcast, all while protecting your ears. And with the Fan View you'll know the running order as it show right on the units screen.

Theres also all the trailers to buy your favorite drivers' gear, and many displays to look at to kill the time before the race.

Yes, it's worth it. Seeing the races in person is a whole different view than from watching it on tv.
Do you know which track your interested in going to?
All are different. I hear Bristol you can actually see the drivers in their cars, while at Talladega where I go, it's so big you only see the cars, and if you don't sit up really high, you can't even see the back stretch.
But still it's a great experience. The races are loud, very. Busch race didn't bother me as much, but the Cup race was like 3-4 times louder. Thank God I had a scanner and was listening to the drivers on the radio's during the Cup race, and that blocked out alot of the sound. You should go, trust me, you'll want to go back again and again.

Going to a race is very well worth it. To answer your question about following who is winning, that is not an issue at the race. They have the "tree" that shows the top 10 on a giant lit up pole. At the shorter tracks (like Bristol) you can pretty much see the whole track at the same time. The bigger tracks are a little harder to watch all at once. Perefial vision is not that large. Here's a little story to tell you, about my first race. I was 17 at the time.

I'll never forget my first race. My dad (has since passed) took my friend (who is no longer with us)(automobile accident) and I for a long roadtrip from the shores of Lake Erie, South to Bristol in 1993. I had never really watched any racing until then. What racing I did watch I rooted for Bill Elliott because he drove the Budwieser car (#11) and I was also a big fan of Terry LaBonte and his Kellogs #5. We arrived in Bristol on Friday night and slept in the parking lot of the racetrack in my dads suburban. My dad said since we are here in plenty of time that we were gonna get tickets to the Budwieser 250 on Saturday (Busch Series). When we walked in to the track I was just amazed. When the race started I had to pick a driver to root for. Since there was no Awesome Bill From Dawsonville or Texas Terry in the race I decided my Busch driver was going to be the #44 car because I liked the way it looked and #44 was the number of one of my favorite players on our highschool football team when we went to state in 85. About ten laps into the race I found out that the driver of that #44 was actually Texas Terrys brother, Bobby LaBonte. What a coincidence. Bobby went on to win the Budwieser 250. What a great start to a great weekend. The next day the cup drivers hit the track for the Food City 500. What an exciting specticle. 500 laps of pure power, banging and bumping the whole race. I've never seen so much excitement in one place. The late great Alan Kulwicki won the race in the #7 Hooters car with some awesome driving all day. Since that day I have a part of me that will never forget Alan Kulwicki and what he done as an owner/driver. I will also continue to root for Bobby LaBonte as I have since my day at the Bud 250.
Nothing beats the excitement of short track racing. They bump and bang the whole race.

I went to both of the Michigan races last season. They were great as well.

I do have three race trips planned for this year. I plan to go back to Michigan, for the August race.
At the end of July, the High Myler Nationals at Sandusky Speedway. That is an ISMA (International Super Modified Association) event. I also have a trip planned to Sharon Speedway, on August 14th when some of the Cup drivers will be racing in the E-mods, on the dirt.

The excitement of the fans and the noise at a live race, make for awesome memories. They are always a good time.

Well...........There shouldn't be much to think about but if you must then yes it's worth it. If you don't like NASCAR then I guess not. I know people that aren't and they went to a race and said it was boring. I love NASCAR and when I went to my first race it was awesome seeing my driver and watching him race. All but the fans it was amazing and I had a lot of fun and didn't want to leave the track. My friend and I stayed in our seats for at least an hour after the race was over because we didn't want to leave!

Roaring loud engines, chill bumps during the national anthem and fly over, blowers on the track when it rains, wiping tar off your sunbaked face, thousands of fans on their feet when it goes green, screaming for your driver when he's about to gain a position, feeling the breeze when they race by you, cursing when your driver gets into the wall, smelling burnt rubber and smoke on the victory lap, walking out of the track with a ringing in your ears - all the while your pulse is racing and you know there's no way you'll sleep tonight. - How could you not want to experience that? Its one of the best things in the world.

All NASCAR fans should go to at least one race. No, it's not everyone's cup of tea, but still going to one you maybe hooked to a new enviorment you grow to enjoy. Loud?, sorry I still can't hear you from last race I went to....lol.
It is an experience all of it's own. Crowded, loud and exciting. If you are a people person, by all means...GO!

To truly experience NASCAR if must attend a race. If nothing else but to appreciate just how fast those guys are going. TV does it no justice.

I could never understand what everyone got off on cars driving in circles until a friend of mine took me to a race in Richmond in 2000, I have been hooked ever since.
