I went to the dentist yesterday and scheduled an appointment for tomorrow morning. But i woke up this morning and its worse than it was the past 3 days. Yesterday i couldn't open my mouth all the way, and today i can't bite down. What the hell should i do? What about eating? I figure i should use warm salt water...eat apple sauce and soup....and take ibprofin or aspirin. Any other suggestions until i go in tomorrow? This is tortrue. I woke up and when i found out i couldn't bite down because of the swelling...i started crying. I feel so helpless and in pain. Anybody have any advice to reduce the swelling?

Instant cure for dental pain:

Dip your clean finger into the best bourbon or whiskey in the house. (Or use a Q-tip.) Without touching your tongue, rub it on the sore spot.

That only puts literally one drop of booze in your body, and can be repeated dozens of times before you feel any effect. It's safe for teething babies, which is how I know about it.

That plus ibuprofen should get you through the day. Ask for soft foods at dinner--pasta's always good.

If it's really unbearable, call the dentist and ask for enough painkiller to hold you until your appointment.

You likely have an infection called Pericoronitis. You need antibiotics to combat an infection, so you need to see a dentist or a doctor ASAP. Not much else will reduce the swelling. Can always try cold packs over the area 15 minutes on and 15 minutes off. Ultimately you should have the wisdom tooth extracted so this doesn't happen again.

Tell your dentist it is an emergency and if you cant get in pronto, you will go elsewhere! You dont NEED to stay with the same dentist do you?? Maybe you arent stressing the pain of it enough to them. Maybe try to eat some ice cream or cold smoothy drinks. also try Oragel on the sore area which should help to numb it temporarilly. You can find it at local drug stores or walmart. Get ALL those wisdom teeth pulled, not just the one that is hurting or you will be in for more future pains, plus I think its cheapest to get them all pulled at once to reduce the cost of anesthsia. good luck

Your local drugstore has some products for teething children (e.g. Ambusol) that might help numb the area. There may be some more adult oriented ones as well. Or call your dentist for advice.

You can try using a tea bag, or ice but it sounds infected. I would get to a doc today, and get on an antibiotic OR call your dentist and see what they say!

Get hot wax, cover a cloth (or paper towel) with it, then put that on your face to reduce the swelling.
