Fat boiling off. Not much you can do

It's protein and fat that leeches out of the dogs when you boil them. Don't actually boil them, but keep the water just below the boiling point to minimize this. And don't overcook them either; hotdogs are virtually always fully cooked out of the package and only need to be fully heated.

It is urine that was still in the cow, pig, or whatever other animal happened to get in the way of the machine processing the hot dogs.
The same foam appears when people pee in a river.

Nonsense, some of the other answers. American hotdogs have a plastic sheen casement that must be cooked off. The original hotdog, like they used to have when baseball was only on a radio broadcast, you peeled the skin off.

You can make them in a fry pan instead. Just a little water, then let the water evaporate and roll them around. They taste so much better this way.

They don't get all waterlogged that way.

I always just thought it was grease, and there wasn't really anything you could do to stop it, but now I am doubting myself. LOL
