I am looking for a romatic spot to view the NYC fireworks from. I don't want to be bumping elbows with strangers and a little grass would be nice. I would like to surprise my girlfriend with a nice picnic and as much seclusion as possible, but still be able to see the show unobstructed. This may be impossible but I thought I would try. Does anyone have a secret spot that they would share? I would like to get there at 6:00 or 7:00 and still be able to see. Possible? Please help.
Happy 4th!

Thanks to all. Roosevelt Island may be the spot. Still looking for more suggestions though. Any out there? I have lived in the city for 15 years now so I know it well. I need a native that knows of a good park in brooklyn (that has a view for the 4th near the water) or queens that doesn't get super crowded. Thanks.

That is going to be a little difficult. As for romantic spots, the only 1 I can think of is the Promenade in Brooklyn, directly above the BQE in Brooklyn Heights, but I'm sure that'll be mobbed. The problem lies in the fact that there aren't very many "grassy, secluded" spots in which to view the fireworks display.
The FDR Drive, Queensboro Bridge, and Corlear Hook Park aren't romantic. The park underneath the Queensboro Bridge gets packed as well.
My guess, would be the southern tip of Roosevelt Island. If you can find a way to get south of the southern most road, where the old hospital used to be, you will have a wonderful and uninterrrupted view. Just be careful, if you get caught, you could be charged with trespassing.
And unfortunately, most of the shoreline in Brooklyn that will allow you unimpeded viewing to the Macy's fireworks display is in an industrial neighborhood.

I don't know that much about it NYC, but if you plan on just romancing her with the view, then I would try to go to a fancy restaurant. Book it in advance. Try to get a seat on their little patio type thing, as close to the edge as possible. If they don't have one, try to get a seat near a window that faces the fireworks.
If you don't plan on eating, then I would find a park thats nearby the fireworks. Try to find a tree arch, a tree with a lot of leaves, or a place between two ponds. Make sure you aren't anywhere near other people, but make sure you are facing the fireworks.

It's been a while but I recall the Castle in Central park being a lovely venue for a picnic and since Tavern on the Green (where Macy's is hosting the show) isn't far it should be a good spot. I found a link that may be helpful for planning: http://www.nycvp.com/NYCVP/4thofjuly.html - Hope it helps you see fireworks of your own making ;) !

the area itself isn't probably a stable area for stable fancy eating places, you could desire to go slightly north to discover a stable eating place. Unfortunatly,, there are various the fabulous eating places contained in the area, contained in the situations warmer construction and contained in the Trump construction, yet those are eating places that e book up months in develop in basic terms for a usual Monday. yet, suitable there on sixtieth, btw B'way and CPW is Picholine, owned with the aid of Terrance Brennan, a eating place that has quite various stars. Very elegant. On theother side of Broadway is Gabriel's a stable Italian eating place, yet not a similar high quality. in case you opt for for to stay to tell the story 57th highway, yet are keen to go way east, there is an entire magnificent eating place stated as March. it rather is this form of eating place that's not properly everyday different than with the aid of authentic NYers. it is so fantastic. it fairly is tasting menu, you get to style extremely of a sort issues. properly fairly worth the holiday over, unlike various different eating place. On sixty fifth or so there's a large eating place Nick and Tony's. not That fancy, in spite of the fact that it fairly is small and delivers you a romantic feeling. because it rather is Valentine's Day,i don't recognize what success you could have, yet all the superb.

try finding a nice tall rooftop. you will be able to see the fireworks well, it will be suclooded, although there will be no greass (unless you find a rooftop garden. that would be great) central park will be so over crowded it's impractical to even try.
