I work with this woman in a doctors office who is getting on my last nerve...we have been short staffed for a bit and she has dont almost nothing to help...it is really starting to piss me off because I am backed up with my work as it is because I am currently working the window...one of my other coworkers told me that she made a comment after filing some charts in the wall (maybe 10 or 12) and she was like i've done my share thats it...meanwhile, i can't even get the chance to get up and do some filing...on her way out she gave me a dirty look...at this point I don't even care...should i speak my mind to her and let her know that she could help out a little more or just keep shut?

We are assuming that she reports to you...

If she stated that she has done her share, that is when she can expect to be done getting paid for the day, as well!

Forget getting even or punishing her, that is only telling her that you can be immature and hateful, too.

In business, there is a line of tasks and processes that must be addressed each day. ONce everyone understands their role and the agenda for the day, there is no question to what has to be done and what is expected by them for the day. It will be a GREAT help by having everyone meet 5 minutes earlier in the morning to get a quick rundown on what you expect them to do. It's not re-training, it's just a pep talk to clarify the day's expectations.

If everyone understands that they are to work until completion, (not until boredom or fatigue), then they can re-group in their mind and monitor themselves.

Envisioning a clean file stack, or counter or bin is the goal. It is EVERYONE'S responsibility and expectation to file charts, not just those who are more mature and need the job. If you have to remind people everyday that it is time to file, or every minute, then so be it! They will soon incorporate this task into their workday and complete it without you having to stand over them.

This exact problem happened in my wife's office and after my intervention, it is not a problem.

Are you her supervisor? If so, you have every right to tell her to do something and expect it to be done. If you are not her supervisor, it is more difficult. Be careful how much you complain to your supervisor and to your coworkers: it can make you appear to be the problem.

Find out if others have noticed the same problems with this person, then try to make sure your supervisor becomes aware of it as well. It would be better if your supervisor can see the problem without you carrying the tale. It is also possible the problem is already known, but has not reached a point where they are willing to get rid of the person.

You should ask your immediate supervisor regarding your uncooperative employee, maybe she/he(supervisor) could give your uncooperative colleague a little nudge or a suggestion on helping you out. Talking to her will just aggitate the already burning situation between you and her, I think a third party would certainly help especially if this one is much higher than both of you. Good luck.

I would try to be nice about it at first, but if that doesn't work, go to a supervisor and complain. Let her boss put her in her place.Telling her off will only make her hostile and create a more stressful working environment for you without resolving anything.

People nowadays!! And it's not just in your work, it's everywhere!!

If you're her boss, tell her that her job is whatever you tell her to do. If you want her to scrub toilets, that's what she'll do. She gets paid by the hour, right?? She needs to earn every dollar.

If you're not her boss, talk to your boss and explain the situation. It also might help if you have him/her watch what's going on. Only then will she get off her butt and work.

if you have an office manager then the office manager should be dealing with it -- other than that make it the problem of whoever is above you. its not your problem to discipline other employees -- it is someone elses and you should talk to that person.

She's not worth this extra expenditure of energy of yours, being angry. Smile. Work faster. Smile. Ignore her.
