In this case I am speaking of the christian god YHWH. He gaves us his name for reason, maybe he would like for us to use it?

This question can be applied to any god I guess that is referred to by title rather than name.

At Acts 15:14 we read: ". . . God for the first time turned his attention to the nations (the Gentiles) to take out of them a people for his name."

I imagine the reasons for failing to use that name are quite varied. It seems odd that people - for whatever reason - do not want to use God's personal name or simply refuse to use His name, dismissing it as unnecessary. Is that the way God feels? In the original Hebrew (that part of the Bible commonly referred to as the Old Testament), God’s name appears almost 7,000 times - more than any titles or combination thereof. Does that sound like he feels it to be unnecessary or unimportant?

Some people insist that God has many names. It is true that he has several titles, such as God, Lord, Almighty, King, Creator and so on. None of these, however, can be said to be his name. When he spoke about his name in the book of Exodus, he did not mention these titles. Moreover, he stated that this personal name was His memorial to time indefinite.

While some recognize that the Hebrew name is YHWH, and they insist upon the pronunciation as Yahweh, even they do not use it. Interestingly, those who insist upon using the pronunciation Yahweh, do not insist upon using Hebrew pronunciations for all the other Bible names. Thus we speak of Jeremiah and Joshua, not Yeremiah or Yehoshua.

Finally, many do not want to use the English pronunciation because they feel it will instantly associate them with he Christian Witnesses of Jehovah who lovingly and often use the name of the true God. Many people actually believe that Jehovah's Witnesses invented the name Jehovah. Of course, the name Jehovah was in use long before Bible students took the name Jehovah's Witnesses back in the early 1930's as a tiny bit of research will indicate. The name Jehovah is even found in the beloved King James Version.

It is noteworthy that Jesus himself made the use of his father's name very important. In the Lord's Prayer, he gave the sanctification of his father's name first priority. Thus we pray: Our Father in the heavens, let YOUR NAME be sanctified. He also speaks of making God's name known as we read in John 17:3: "I have made your name manifest."

How does God feel about the use of his name? Notice what he inspired the prophet to say at Jeremiah 10:25: "Pour out your rage upon the nations who have ignored you, and upon the families who have not called even upon your name."

Finally, we read of God's attitude on the use of his name at Malachi 3:16: ". . . and Jehovah kept paying attention and listening. And a book of remembrance began to be written up before him for those in fear of Jehovah and for those thinking upon his name.”

In view of the foregoing, it seems pretty clear that God means for his name to be used. Those who love him and wish to worship him do not hesitate to do so. In view of the foregoing, it seems pretty clear that God's name is quite important to him and those who claim to be his worshipers do Him a great disservice by refusing to use it or by pretending it does not matter. God used His name over 7,000 times. His own son used it. The disciples and apostles used it. Even God’s enemies used it. What really is our excuse?

Jesus told us in the Lord's prayer to use his Fathers name. read ps 83 verse 18. you have a name, Jesus Christ the son has a name and so does his Father and it is Jehovah. God is a title not his name. when you use Jehovah's name is becomes a friend to you. Jesus told us to use his Fathers name. YHWH

It can consult with each. As for Acts, the apostles were not insinuating the "unknown" God was once Jehovah (so far as I can recollect ever having found out). It was once simply that- an unknown God that the persons have been scared of offending. The apostle praised their religious intensity. Weren't the ones the Boreans who after the lessons of the apostles searched the scripture to confirm what they have been being taught? Good query.

Out of respect. To a Christian God is our Father.

John 1:12 “ But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.”

Just like we don't call our parents by their name we don't call God by his name because he is our Father.

God Bless You.

Referring to God by His name makes Him more real.
Many people don't want that.

I have often asked that question and have never received a reply other than that I was being 'blasphemous'.

Humph!

I don't feel right about using His name, so I usually say Father in heaven.
In any case, He knows who is talking to Him and who is not.

GOD has many names. Jehovah, Yaweh, El Shaddai, DEUS, GOD...they are all the same...it makes no difference. It is not a title...it is HIS name.

God is our Father as well, but do you call your earthly father by his name?

I think God would rather us work on our relationship with him than quibble over things like this.

I understand that the name Yaweh is the Hebrew version, but Jehovah is his name in English.
