The book of Job. The first times (many times) I read it, I couldn't figure out if Job's friends were trying to help him or what was going on.
I love the verse. ""For I know that my Redeemer lives, and He will stand at last on the earth.....in my flesh I shall see God, Whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not another..."
Job knew a Redeemer was promised, even before prophets
were proclaiming His Word.

Not a book, but the Sermon on the Mount is a truly moralizing work. I guess that would be Matthew and/or Luke.

Genesis, as it has proved to be a false foundation for an epic work of fiction.
