I am a Canadian citizen with a green card. I am flying home one way to Canada. I will drive back later, will I be hassled when I leave the US with only my green card?

I am probably not explaining this well bc people are still not really answering the question. This has nothing to do with ENTERING the US, it has to do with EXITING. I will be leaving on a ONE WAY ticket and driving back. My green card is in lieu of my passport to exit. Canada does not care about my green card and as a Canadian citizen I don't need my passport to enter (I wouldn't even mention my US green card).
I am going tomorrow and I will let everyone know what happens.
To the person who was denied boarding going back to Canada, I doubt he was a green card holder.....

Another update, I talked to a representative at Customs and Border security yesterday and he assured me that not only can I leave on just a green card but I can re-enter as well. There is so much attention on the whole passport situation that he says the communication on the green card has been drowned out. He says any issues they may have can be cleared up easily with checking with the regulations. I will post my experience tomorrow....

Last update-I was successful boarding my flight with my green card and I can return on it too. You do not need it to leave or enter the US or Canada (I used my BC and DL at customs in Canada). I am not sure if this rule will change but the green card is more secure than a passport anyway since it has your biometric info on it.

Yes you need a passport to fly. You will be refused boarding your flight without one. My flight home from Vegas last month someone without a passport was refused boarding. The latest rules say Americans can fly this summer with proof they have applied for a passport because of line ups. You don't need a passport to drive yet.

I would REALLY love to know what happened with you in this regard because I am in the EXACT same position. It's a looong story as to why my passport reapplication in Canada was rejected (I promise, not my fault) and I have planned to travel for the end of August.

I know that I cannot be refused entry to my country, but I most certainly can be refused boarding my flight.

I anxiously await to hear about your experience and wish you the best of luck.

you will need your passport and green card. They will still ask you a million questions about where you are going. Getting back into the US is always harder for a Canadian living here.

you will need your passport to prove that you are a Canadian Citizen..your green card is an American document and has no bearing on Canada.. we are 2 seperate countries..should be hard to get back with your green card, proves you have been vetted by their government,,
