I cannot afford my health insurance premium with the wage i get through work comp. Since this is because of the accident, doesn't this fall under work comp?

No. Workers comp does NOT pay premiums for benefits you get through your employer. It's ONLY medical and lost wages.

Work Comp is not designed to pay specific bills, only to pay a portion of your payroll, which varies from state to state as far as a percentage. Unfortunately, the answer to your questions is simply no. Along that same line, Work Comp is only for injuries/illnesses that occur AT WORK so your family would not be covered there either.

You may want to speak to your agent about finding you a cheaper policy until you can return to work. Your current employer is not required to keep you on the health insurance unless they are very kind. Most employers aren't that nice however.

Any health issues that you have while on comp. is covered by comp. That doesn't include family members. Your employer can not drop you from your policy while on comp. (I found out after the fact). If you don't have a lawyer; get one; and ask them how the premium is to be paid in your state. You'll need the lawyer to read over any papers before you sign off any future claims that can be related back to this injury, which you will be asked to do.

No, it does not. Workmen's comp payments make up some of your lost wage along with coverage of your medical expenses which are related to the injury you suffered at work.

Health insurance coverage is not part of those payments unless your employer graciously continues to provide it out of his pocket.

Would you expect the workmen's comp carrier to pay for your mortgage/rent and car payment as well ?
