people having their ciggy break in the street!!!!!!!!!!

:o(

I say ban smoking in all PUBLIC places, not just enclosed ones!
If they want to smoke let them have certian places for it, away from everyone who doesn't want to smell/breath it.

What say you?

i think is time to open our eyes and see that the government
applied the rules but still allows the shop to sell cigarettes so they can cash in the taxes, isn't it all a bit of a joke?

Of course it is right to ban smoking in public places. We all have a right to go into any public space and have a right to breath clean air or as clean as we can these days. It is not a case of well they know smokers are in public areas yes but so are those of us who do not smoke. Why do smokers feel they have a right to smoke where ever they like and those that do not can lump it is that a fair attitude I think not? Smokers have had it their way far too long. I also feel smoking in front of children should be banned and smoking in a vehicle with children is nothing but child abuse the child cannot tell a parent not to smoke and the poor child has to endure the stink from smoking and any side effects that may or may not harm the child’s health. It is not only a health issue but who wants to go out wearing nice cloths use nice smells and come home stinking like an ash tray?

I agree with you, although I am a smoker. it's a horrible habit, and banning it now might be hard for those of us who are smokers now, but in the long run, it will most definitely have an impact on the amount of teens who start smoking. It will create more incentive for those who do smoke to quit... But they really should give people a place that is of some convenience to them (so they'll use it) a place they can go rather then standing all over the street like a bunch of outcasts. And what's up with the nonsmokers acting like smokers have some crazy disease that they will catch by walking by them...come on! Get real and quit acting like your going to catch some kind of crazy contact buzz. You just cant make every one happy. I suppose we could create segregation, smokers on the left side of the street, nonsmokers on the right....geesh People will bi**h and whine no matter what, give an inch, take a mile....and obsess over such minute things when there are so many worse things out there then a person trying to have a smoke with their coffee, like the pollution pouring from the cars driving by that are ripping a hole in our ozone layer.... try breathing then.

Its a process. More cities are banning smoking in lots of places. Seattle has a 25 feet rule (away from building doorways).

How about banning cars in cities and cars idling in the street - that would be refreshing.

ok, this one got my attention!! I don't know about the UK, but here (AZ, USA) we just passed the same law. I smoke, and I figure, if you don't want to be around it, move away!! I don't like that alcohol smelling perfume, exhaust, body odor, bad breath, somebody coughing on me, sneezing, should I go on? Here we are building new Public schools, streets, bridges, free lunch for school children, low-income housing, childcare, CRIMINALS IN PRISONS, etc., etc, How does this equate with your comment? WE PAY ABOUT 80% PER PACK TOWARD TAXES FOR THESE SERVICES. So, I'm actually contributing to society!!! What are YOU doing? Beverly Sills died last night (famous singer here) @ 76 of lung cancer. She NEVER smoked in her life!!!! George Burns, on the other hand, Smoked & drank until his death @ 100! Go figure.

It might be wise for the UK to stop worrying about peoples right to smoke, and concentrate on the radical muslim population that they seem content to allow to live there. If they are really concerned about peoples health (of course they aren't, this anti-smoking nonsense originates from the insurance companies that are allowed to dictate so much government policy), they ought to begin deporting these radicals. Sooner or later, it's going to come to that.

I feel the same way with obnoxious amounts of perfume. Perhaps you should petition workplaces to provide a place for people to smoke, like they do in airports - with proper ventilation.

Totally your opinion!!
It's so annoying that you have to walk through a cloud of smoke before you can enter any building these days!

I can compromise and endure some cigarette smoke on a restaurant patio, but I still don't like it at open sports arenas. Maybe b/c the seating is too close?

But never walking past it? Get real.
