How many times is that tired misconception going to be repeated? Atheists simply goto a search engine and type "Bible contradictions" and think they've studied the Bible. I've gone to web sites which refute those web sites, to what ends does it really help? Are atheists really so naive and arrogant that they believe no Christian has either studied their Bible or has a grasp of what they believe? I stake my life and that of my family on the knowledge of God and Christ. Is there anything in your life you can say that about? Do you really think you are more enlightened than ANY Christian? Isn't that a tad, naive? I'd be happy to debate any point, but in the end would you believe me anyway?

soccerstar... is that the representation for "enlightened" atheist you want to portray? Looks like there are morons on both side of the spectrum.

fospaauer: I understand the response, and agree that the Bible is never going to offer enough "proof" for you. You may never find enough "proof". My assertion is that if you seek God openly with your heart and mind, you will find the truth. That will be proof enough.

fascfinder: now that is typical. Jesus didn't say "hate" your family, he told specific followers to deny their family, in other words put Christ before family. You just proved that you can twist the Bible to say anything. It's that mentality that is the most disturbing. Again, I don't know if it will do anygood, but email me with your "Biblical problems" and I'll do my best to teach you something.

Timon: don't take my word for it, check out some of the responses and some of the previous questions posted by atheists. What world do you live in?

cricket: I'll take that under advisement, but I certainly am not intending an attack, I'm merely pointing out that the assumption is generalized and a bit naive.

Jersey Rick: just check your email. You do refer to John's comparing Jesus to Paschal's sacrificial lamb which the Torah stated was to be sacrificed on the 14th day of Nissan, or the eve of Passover, compared to the synoptic gospels day of... more details in the emai.

WOW, did you take my question and twist it to fit your concept of the world. I guess that is expected from a christian such as you (and to make it really clear for you - I am not referring to all christians)

I have read bible contradictions but that was about 6 years after I started my research into christianity.

I could list hundreds of reasons not on that website why I know that religion in general and christianity in particular is a man-made idea.

I will say that I am definitely more enlightened than you there sport.

Since you think you know the answers to everything, answer the question I posted in my question. Why does the gospel according to John change the date of the crucifixion? I have an answer but I want to see if you really read your bible.

A lack of a response will be considered an answer as well.

Never visited websites about bible contradictions, I base my conclusions on personal knowledge of the bible and research on both christian and secular archeology along with other sciences. I believe that many Christians know their bible but their views and interpretations are largely swayed by the church community that they are in - you hear the same "pat" answers to questions like why Jesus's genealogies don't match (either in number of generation, linage, or direct royal linage to Solomon). ro what happens to the billions of people that god ignored throughout the centuries.

Conversely, Christians have a tendency to believe any pseudo science that seems to support their beliefs. Or while knowing the bible inside and out, have no clue of how it fits or doesn't in a historical context. For example, the Jews had no need to ask the Romans to crucify Jesus, or that the Temple curtain was not recorded as being destroyed until 70 AD.

Well, some of us Christians really DO have a lack of knowledge about church history, and about scripture. And some atheists really HAVE studied the Bible to a larger extent than some Christians.

So isn't it unfair to assume that ALL atheists believe that they have a better grasp of Christianity than we do? Sure, there's a lot of misinformation out there (see my last question for a few examples), but there are also atheists who have a VERY good idea of what Christianity is about, and what the Bible says.

And in all truth, some Christians believe the misinformation as well. I've met several that believe that none of the books in the New Testament were written until the 4th century.

But please try not to attack them. That's almost what your question sounds like, an attack.

The problem is that Christians are accused of basing their whole lives on a book written by men. Unfortuantely, when asked where they ge their information about the Bible, it is from a book written by some other man.

If we aren't supposed to support our beliefs without the Bible, why are they allowed to support theirs with something they found in a book.

Oh, that's right. We blindly believe what we've been taught for the last 2000 years. Wait a minute, hasn't atheism been handed down through the generations just as long?

Food for thought.

Scott...you know Jesus says there comes a point in time when Christians must "shake the dust from your feet" about some people, their opinions, and their tenacity to try to rope the wind.

A true Christian is not going to be moved or swayed by such innocuous things as social or political correctness, popularity or opinion polls. We KNOW just how amazing Almighty God and Jesus are. All else is smoke and mirrors.

So what have they got left?
Jeering, sneering, ridicule, & slander.
Such things loudly proclaim & attest to the bankruptcy of the mind.

Save your breath.

In my experience, atheists are generally more knowledgeable about the Bible than most Christians. I was at another website and posted a little essay about things that Jesus commanded others, like HATE your family, abandon them, give away all your possessions, stop working and trust in God to provide, drink poison, cut off your hand and pluck out your eye, and some Christians denied he said any such things! Even though I'd provided Chapter and Verse.

There have been many polls taken in which a huge percentage of self-professed Christians could not even name the Gospels (that's Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.) How can I possibly argue that Matthew didn't write "Matthew", if they aren't even aware of it!

I do not use the term in an insulting way, but I believe that a True Christian bases his beliefs on the teachings of Jesus and the apostles. These teachings include the belief in creation rather than evolution, as described in Genesis. Yes, Jesus believed the Genesis creation account, as indicated by Matthew 19:4-6. Therefore, a person who believes some other thing than creation is by default other than a Christian.

It does take knowledge...but what book are you studying?
If we all use the bible and recognize it as the word of God...we all might get to survive the inevitable destruction soon to hit this planet.
God has warned us from the very beginning that he wants a clean society on earth worshiping him.

But if the others use science or some other form of info...then where is the balance.
Facts prove that a higher power had to create all this.....for what would scientists study if God hadn't made it.

Listen y'all....God is going to end this debate...ready or not it is on the way...and it won't be late.

Lets all come to an agreement to work together to have God change his mind about us. Help him turn back his wrath.

The earth belongs to mankind...we should beg God to forgive us and allow us to live his way.

Hey, not all Christians are as well educated about the bible as you are, just like not all atheists lack knowledge about it. I would never say that I know more than you, but I'm sure out there, there is some atheist who just may know more about the bible than you. Don't get upset over this, but people spend their entire lives studying that book, and end up either reaffirming their faith, or becoming an atheist.

It just all comes down to the fact that there is absolutely nothing to backup what you say.

The bible is not in and of itself proof of the existence of god. It is a beautifally written text that connects us to our past, but it is no more suitable for the non fiction category as Illiad of Beowulf.

So if I were to accept God with an open heart and mind (my heart and mind have been open for quite some already by the way) how is that going to make me a christian? Even if I were to "feel" something, how would that get me into your church each Sunday. Why would i want to believe in a God that banishes his non-believing children to Hell anyway?

Add the fact that you like to tell people that they and their loved ones are going to burn in hell for eternity because they dont choose to subscribe to your beliefs and that is why rational people have such a hard time with you.
