Judas, I believe was a bit of a zealot who thought Jesus was coming as a great military leader who would crush the Romans. I don't think he ever understood Jesus' ministry on Earth, Judas thought about war and victory, and Jesus taught turn the other cheek. I'm not sure Judas was aware of how he would betray Jesus, but Jesus was. Because Jesus knows people's hearts, he knows what decisions we are likely to make. Such was the case with Judas.

Judas didn't hear Jesus when He told Peter about the bread. He chose to do what He did. It all fell into God's will, but Judas still chose it, and therefore will suffer. Judas' downfall helped to fulfill the scripture, but that doesn't make his actions right.
